Abstract: This invention is directed to a removal of a ghost image created during a processing of a film laminate medium (12′) by an electrographic plotter (10′). Recording an image on the film medium induces a ghosting potential over a developing station (30) which causes a spurious image (ghost) to be developed. The latent image is created by depositing a charge on a dielectric layer of the film. A relationship exists between the deposited charge and the ghosting potential. By use of information known to the system, the ghosting potential may be estimated and reduced. A preferred method estimates the magnitude of the ghosting potential by use of the relationship between deposited charge and ghosting potential. A counteracting potential is applied to the system to reduce the ghosting potential over the developing station.

Abstract: A longitudinally displacable roll apparatus supporting a web (16) of record material is designed to maintain the roll (18) in proper alignment with associated processing equipment as the web is paid from, or wound onto, the roll. The apparatus comprises a pair of frame members supporting the roll. The roll is rotated by a drive shaft (195) having an interengageable coupler on the drive shaft and one end of the roll, to permit the roll to be rotatably driven by the roll drive shaft while not being directly secured thereto. The other end of the roll is engaged by means for displacing it longitudinally in accordance with signals derived from the actual path of the web so as to keep the web accurately on its intended path. The longitudinal and rotational drive system are able to operate independently of each other.

Abstract: A system for controlling the path of a web of material (18), which is transported from a supply (20) to a takeup means (32) along a predetermined path via one or more processing stations (12, 14, 16), comprises aligned tracking indicia (72, 74, 78) along at least one edge of the web. Means are provided to observe the tracking indicia as the web is transported along the system path and produce signals representing dimensional changes in the length and width of the web due to web shrinkage or expansion, or indicative of a particular point along the length of the web useful at one or more of the processing stations in the system.

Abstract: A color electrographic recording apparatus (10) produces on a record medium (16) a composite color image comprising a plurality of superimposed component images of different colors, e.g., magenta, cyan, yellow and black. The medium is driven in opposite directions through the apparatus which has a recording head (48) for forming a latent image on the medium, a plurality of developing stations (26, 28, 30, 32) adjacent one side or both sides of the recording station each of the developing stations developing a latent image into a visible image of a respective color. The apparatus passes a section of the record medium past the recording head to form a first latent image which is developed in its respective color before the medium is reversed past the recording head to permit formation of the next latent image followed by its respective color development. This process is repeated until all component latent images and their respective color development have been completed to form a composite color image. The apparatus also includes registration means to compensate for any dimensional changes of the medium section in use so that all the component color images will be superimposed on one another despite any shrinkage or expansion of the medium during processing.
