Abstract:
A light-transmissive transfer belt used in the system for determining toner mass amount and methods for making the belt. A system and method, using the transparent transfer belt, is capable of determining an amount of toner mass present on a toner application surface, and the real-time adjustment of parameters controlling xerographic transfer performance in the system. The system comprises transmission-based sensors alone and in combination with reflective-based sensors.
Abstract:
A microbial fuel cell includes a cell housing (12) having first and second chambers (14,16). The first chamber (14) is adapted for containing a fluid including a biomas. The second chamber (16) is adapted for containing an oxygenated fluid. A cathode (22) extends into the cell housing second chamber (16) and an anode segment of an electrode assembly extends into the cell housing first chamber. The electrode assembly has multiple, substantially aligned, fibers. The outer surfaces of the fibers of the anode segment are adapted for receiving a biofilm.

Abstract:
Seamed belts, particularly puzzle-cut imageable seam intermediate transfer belts, and marking machines that use such belts, that have a beveled sides across the thickness of the belt. When the first and second ends are interlocked the bevel points are adjacent one another and a substantially V-shaped channel is formed. An adhesive is disposed in that channel. The V-shaped channel beneficially continuously extends along the puzzle-cut seam.

Abstract:
Electronic switches and sensors have pultruded contact members. A switch includes first and second contact members, at least one of which including a pultruded contact member having an insulating body and a plurality of conductive fibers carried within the insulating body. The pultruded contact member is fibrillated at least at one end thereof to expose the conductive fibers for establishing electrical contact when brought into physical contact with the other of the first and second contact members. A sensor for detecting the presence of an article in a detection zone includes a contact at one side of the detection zone, and a pultrusion including a plurality of electrically conductive fibers and a host material carrying the plurality of fibers, supported at another end of the detection zone. One end of the pultrusion has a fibrillated end portion extending across the detection zone in electrical connection with the contact that is displaced by the article when the article is present in the detection zone to disconnect the electrical connection. The sensor is particularly well adapted to sense a sheet of paper or the like, for example, in an electrostatographic reproducing machine, and can be connected to a source of electrical potential so that the conductive fibers serve to discharge any static charges existing on the sheet of paper.
