Abstract:
A processor of a printing device automatically raster image processes print data in a print job to produce a first, relatively low resolution, bitmap for printing the print job with the printer's main colors and one or more optional colors. The processor automatically compares the extended gamut of the lower-resolution first bitmap and the main color gamut of the printing engine to identify image quality improvement pixels of the extended gamut that are outside the main color gamut. The processor automatically either raster image processes the print data with the main colors and one of the optional colors, or raster image processes the print data with only the main colors, based on whether the number of image quality improvement pixels of the extended gamut that are outside the main color gamut exceeds a pixel quantity threshold, to produce a second, relatively higher resolution, bitmap.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides a method and system of generating a plurality of custom spot color look-up tables, each custom spot color look-up table associated with one of a plurality of modes associated with an image marking device. In addition, provided is a job workflow method and system which accesses the plurality of custom spot color look-up tables to print a custom spot color.
Abstract:
A color shift security feature is provided. In at least one form, a clear colorant is used to add content to a document to provide a visual indication if the document is printed on a printer with self-limiting behavior. In this manner, in at least one form, it can be determined if a document is authentic, secure and/or authorized.

Abstract:
According to exemplary methods herein, a print job comprising an electronic document and job attributes including an imposition template is received into a marking device having a print engine using a standard color gamut and another colorant. A sheet of the job is analyzed for the standard color gamut and for the other colorant. The layout of images for multiple pages of the electronic document on the sheet is determined and the number of passes of the sheet through the print engine is determined based on image requirements for each page on the sheet. User selectable instructions modify the printing instructions for selected pages on the sheet. The user selectable instructions include parameters associated with the number of passes of the sheet through the print engine and the use of the standard color gamut and the other colorant in the images for printing each of the pages on a substrate.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for extended gamut printing. A print job is received into a print engine having a processor and a limited number of receptacles for colorant extension attachments that can be used in addition to a standard color gamut. The processor analyzes a page of the print job for the color gamut and for the color gamut with each possible gamut extension colorant. The processor calculates gamut distances for the color of each pixel outside of the color gamut for every gamut colorant extension. The gamut distances are the distances from the color of the pixel to a boundary of the color gamut. The processor calculates a sum of the gamut distances. For each pixel on the page outside of the color gamut, the processor selects an extension colorant attachment to attach to the limited physical receptacles based on having the greatest sum of the gamut distances.
Abstract:
A method of operating a printer includes identifying coordinates in a device independent color space for a spot color, identifying color components in a device dependent full color profile in a printer model for an association between the spot color in the device independent color space and a device dependent color space, and emitting a pattern of colorants with reference to the color components to reproduce the spot color in a printed image. The colorant pattern has a colorant density exceeding a predetermined colorant limit threshold associated with printed colors other than spot colors.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for controlling an in-focus window in a graphical user interface (GUI) are disclosed. For example, the apparatus includes a processor and a computer readable medium storing instructions, which when executed by the processor, perform operations including displaying a plurality of windows that is overlaid on top of one another in the GUI, receiving a control operation intended for the in-focus window while a cursor of the GUI is over an area of an out-of-focus window that is adjacent to the in-focus window, analyzing one or more parameters to determine an intent of the control operation and applying the control operation to the in-focus window.
Abstract:
If elements (curves) of a tone reproduction curve increase application of marking material, the magnitudes of the elements of the tone reproduction curve are summed. If the summed magnitudes of the elements of the tone reproduction curve exceed marking material limits, a warning message is output.
