    Abstract: In the creation of a target marking for a laser beam (4) in an observation device (21), it is desirable to be independent of the reflective properties of the object observed. This can be achieved by outcoupling a part of the light of an additional illumination (15) for surrounding-field illumination of the point of incidence (1) of the laser beam (4) by means of a mirror arrangement (3). The outcoupled light is reflected on a target mark (5) and, after coupling into the beam path of the observation device, generates in the image plane of the latter the target mark image. Advantageously, the mirror arrangement (3) consists of a splitter plate with a reflection-reducing layer (22) on the upper side and a reflection-increasing layer (23) on the lower side. The invention can be used in all devices, in which a marking of the point of incidence (1) of a laser beam (4) in the observation field (2) of an observation device is desired.

A monochromator comprises in an autocollimation arrangement, an entrance/exit slit defined by jaws 5, 6, a mirror 7 and a prism 2 with a mirrored surface 3, the prism and the jaw 6 being fixedly mounted on a turntable 1 with an axis of rotation 4 which extends perpendicularly through the optical axis of the beam of light which passes through the slit, and is parallel to the slit. On a change of wave-length which is effected by rotating the prism 2 on turntable 1, jaw 6 is also rotated altering the width of the slit, which enables the spectral band width of the transmitted radiation to be maintained approximately constant. The initial slit width may be altered by adjusting jaw 5.

A two-stage stabilization circuit is provided for stabilizing the wavelength of a laser diode to exactly defined values for its use in distance measuring interferometers. In addition to presetting the operating parameters of current and temperature of the laser diode, the emitted wavelength of the laser diode is controlled to a predetermined transmission maximum of a Fabry-Perot interferometer. At switch-on, a control program can be called up and compute new values for the operating parameters premised on the last measured values of the operating parameters and initially determined and stored coefficients. In this way, the program always reliably sets the wavelength of the laser diode to the same transmission maximum.
