Abstract: A piston pump for conveying fragile particulate food products without damaging the product. The pump includes a filler and a discharge conduit containing piston valves actuated by hydraulic cylinders. The pumping chamber in which the product is compressed is equipped with a linear displacement transducer/magnet sensor which senses not only the position, but the speed of the piston. In response to the sensor, a proportioning valve releases hydraulic fluid at increasing pressure to a desired maximum, to the hydraulic cylinder actuating the piston in the pumping chamber of a second pump operating in tandem with the first pump. The product is expelled alternatively from the two pumps at the maximum desired pressure appropriate for the character of the product. The pump also includes means for flushing the pump without dismantling.

Abstract: A pump monitoring and notification system for a hydraulic pump includes an accelerometer and a controller. The accelerometer is associated with the hydraulic pump and is disposed relative to the hydraulic pump to generate acceleration data indicative of acceleration of the hydraulic pump. The controller is configured to access a fault threshold, access a time threshold, and determine an acceleration of the accelerometer based upon the acceleration data from the accelerometer. The controller is further configured to determine an RMS average of the acceleration of the accelerometer based upon the acceleration of the hydraulic pump, compare the RMS average of the acceleration of the accelerometer to the fault threshold, and generate an alert signal when the RMS average of the acceleration of the accelerometer exceeds the fault threshold for a time period exceeding the time threshold.

Abstract: Feed devices for liquid samples serve to convey liquid samples, for example to convey a liquid sample from waste water in a waste water treatment plant so as to monitor the treatment process. Known feed devices feed continuously at relatively low speeds. Films may accrete in the feed line that hinder the feeding and may react with the liquid sample. Therefore, the feed line must be cleaned frequently. In view of this, it is the object of the invention to improve the handling and the maintenance of a feed device for liquid samples. According to the invention, this object is solved by the fact that the feed pump (16) feeds in a pulse-like manner and the feed pump (16) as well as the feed line (18) are configured such that the expansion volume of the feed line (18) during the feed pulse is at most 50% of the pulse volume. Thereby, the feed line is cleaned and kept free of accretions.
