    Abstract: A ferrous strip is galvanized by establishing an electrostatic potential on the strip which is then submerged on a fluidized bed (18) of powdered galvanizing material and then allowing the adhered galvanized powder to be carried by the strip to a reflow station. The reflow station heats the strip and galvanizing material to liquify the galvanizing material and establish the necessary alloy interface on the ferrous strip. Thereafter, the strip passes to a cooling zone wherein the reflowed galvanizing material is solidified before contacting a roller (20) to use to direct the strip to the exit of the galvanizing apparatus. The atmosphere within the galvanizing apparatus (10) is kept inert through the use of nitrogen which is also used as the fluid medium for the suspension of the galvanizing powder in the fluidized bed (18).

    Abstract: An electrospray coating head system (10) for applying thin coating to a substrate comprising a slot (20) or blade to meter a liquid onto a shaping structure (15) which forces the liquid to have a single continuous and substantially constant radius of curvature around the shaping structure (15). A voltage applied to the liquid around the shaping structure causes the liquid to produce a series of filaments which are spatially and temporally fixed, the number of filaments being defined and temporally fixed, the number of filaments being defined by a simple adjustement in the applied voltage. The filaments break up into a uniform mist of charge droplets and are driven to a substrate by electric fields to produce a coating. Also a method for electrospray coating.

    Abstract: Apparatus and a method for electrostatically depositing doses of medicament powder (304) at selected locations on a substrate (110), such as those that are used to fabricate suppositories, inhalants (704), tablets, and capsules. The apparatus contains a charged particle emitter (102) for generating charged particles that charge a predefined region of a substrate (500) and a charge accumulation control circuit (108) for computing the amount of charge accumulated upon the substrate (500) and deactivating the emitter (102) when a selected quantity of charge has accumulated. A triboelectric charging apparatus (302) charges the medicament powder (304) and forms a charged medicament cloud (412) proximate the charged region of the substrate (500). The medicament particles within the medicament cloud (412) electrostatically adhere to the charged region. The quantity of charge accumulated on the substrate (500) at the predefined region and the charge-to-mass ratio of the medicament powder (304) in the cloud (412) control the dose of medicament deposited and retained by the substrate (500).

    Abstract: An electrostatic spraying device is disclosed which is suitable for, but not limited to, dispensing an electrostatically sprayable substance for nasal or oral inhalation. Electrical charge is imparted to the spray particles by applying a high voltage to the substance prior to break up into a spray. In one embodiment, the device includes a nozzle portion for registry with the nasal or oral cavity and defines a passageway through which, in use, air can be drawn by inhalation on the part of the user. The substance to be sprayed passes into the passageway so that, with the assistance of user-induced air flow through the passageway, the resulting spray passes into the oral or nasal cavity.
