Abstract:
A device for comminuting a liquid, which comprises at least two electrohydrodynamic comminution means (24) arranged so that in use comminutions of opposing polarity are formed which are substantially admixed after formation, so as to provide a comminution having a residual electrical charge.
Abstract:
An electrostatic spraying device for use in spraying liquids having resistivities of the order of 5 x 10 ohm.cm and viscosities of the order of 1 Poise at a spraying rate up to at least 4 cc/min (especially paint formulations) is provided with an annular shroud (112) of semi-insulating material (e.g. bulk resistivity of the order of 10 to 10 ohm.cm) which is electrically connected to a high voltage generator (126) for supplying high voltage to liquid emerging at the outlet of the nozzle (114). In this way, a voltage is established on the annular electrode (126) which is of the same polarity, and substantially the same magnitude, as the voltage applied to the liquid thereby modifying the potential gradient in the immediate vicinity of the nozzle outlet so as to allow the use of the high voltage needed to effect efficient spraying of liquids having the specified resistivity and viscosity at flow rates up to at least 4 cc/min.
Abstract:
Method and device for coating of objects by application of a powder with static electrical charge and of such a material, preferably plastic, that when heated it is melted together to form a homogenous layer. The object (1) exhibits an electrically non-conductive surface and is imparted a static electrical charge by being subjected to a direct current fed high voltage electrode (14). The charged object is separated from the charge influence from the electrode during application of the electrostatically charged powder, which has opposite polarity with regard to the charge of the object. During a subsequent heating, while the powder is retained on the surface of the object by electrostatic forces, the powder is transformed to solid state and anchored to the object.
Abstract:
A device for dispensing a liquid for inhalation, which comprises an unshielded electrohydrodynamic communition means (1), a means for supplying a liquid to the comminution means, a sharp discharge electrode (12) and, optionally, a means for charging the discharge electrode to a polarity opposite to that of the comminution means, wherein the discharge electrode is located so as to direct gaseous ions into the body of the comminuted liquid and thereby to fully or partially discharge the comminuted liquid.
Abstract:

Abstract:
An electrostatic spraying device comprises a high voltage generating circuit powered by a low voltage circuit comprising one or more radiation sensitive elements and charge storage means.
Abstract:
A system and method for detecting and controlling ungrounded parts during the electrostatic coating process in order to improve production flow, provide an overall cost saving by efficient use of the coating material and prevention of accidental fires and false shutdown during production. The system (10) of the present invention comprises a detection system (47) for detecting any ungrounded parts (22) prior to entering a coating environment, such as a painting booth. The detection system (47) in accordance with one embodiment, comprises an array of detectors, specifically, an ultraviolet sensor (50), a radio-frequency wave sensor (52), an acoustic sensor (54) and a light sensor (46), which upon sensing specific characteristics generate representative signal waveforms. These waveforms are then compared with stored waveforms relating to profiles of sparking or corona discharge characteristics. Correlation circuits may correlate data obtained by two or more sensors in order to ensure that the spark or corona discharge is caused by an ungrounded part. In accordance with an alternative embodiment, the detection system (47) comprises a measuring device, such as a sensitive electric field meter, for measuring the electrical potential field between each part to be coated and ground.
