Abstract:
A substrate is coated with a coating material by rubbing substantially dry, discrete particles of the coating material across the surface of the substrate with a sufficient rate of energy input to cause them to adhere. Preferably, the particles are carried on the surface of a soft, resilient bufffing wheel rotating sufficiently rapidly to give peripheral speeds of from 2 to 200 m/s. Exemplified coating materials include metals, metal oxides and plastics.
Abstract:
A process and apparatus are disclosed for sealing the edges of reagent ribbon using a grooved applicator roll such that the edges of the reagent ribbon become effectively sealed and liquid present in the reagent matrix material is retained therein and prevented from running over into another reagent matrix area present on the same reagent test device.
Abstract:
Liquid coatings are applied to cylindrical articles (26) such as plastic containers, in which each article during movement by a rotary transport is caused to spin about its cylindrical axis by a drive (45, 20) for the container holding rotatable chucks. A liquid coating is applied by an applicator (60, 61) to the cylindrical surface of the spinning container. A wiper (70) spreads the coating uniformly and a drier (80) dries the coating. The ratio of the speed of orbital movement of the containers and the rate and direction of spin of the containers is adjustably controllable.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a paint film comprising (a) a radiation-cured paint film which contains 40 to 90 % by weight, preferably 50 to 60 % by weight urethane acrylate, 0 to 20 % by weight, preferably 10 to 15 % by weight polyether acrylate, 10 to 50 % by weight, preferably 25 to 40 % by weight reactive diluent, 0 to 30 % by weight pigments and 0 to 10 % by weight, preferably 2 to 5 % by weight of a carboxy-functional (meth)acrylic ester, 0 to 10 % by weight of other usual paint fillers, and, in the event of curing with UV rays, 0 to 10 % by weight, preferably 3 to 6 % by weight photoinitiator, and (b) bears on one side an adhesive which has free NCO groups in the freshly spread adhesive, can be thermoplasticised, in particular in the treatment conditions provided and which has a very low surface adhesiveness.
Abstract:
A monolithic particle-containing layer in multi-layered sheeting (for example, sheeting of the type comprising resilient vinyl flooring) is produced by applying a composition comprising a suspension (17) comprising liquid carrier material (14) having dispersed therein decorative particles (13) to a surface (21) of a layer of the multi-layered sheeting, the application of the composition being preferably by the reverse roll (18, 19) coating method.
Abstract:
In an application method and an application device, a liquid (3) to be applied is supplied to form a liquid reservoir (8) immediately upstream of the contact portion between a rotating bar (1) and a continuously-moving web (2) so as to apply the liquid (3) to the web (2). The effective application length of the bar (1) is set to be shorter than the width of the web (2) so as to prevent the liquid (3) from flying away and suction openings (11) are provided at both the end faces (10) of the effective application length part of the bar (1) so as to suck the excess portion of the liquid (3) along the end faces (10) of the bar (1).
Abstract:
A method for forming a uniform, extremely thin film on the surface of plastics molded articles, films, sheets, synthetic paper, fibers, metal, and other objects, said film containing an anti-static agent, anti-fogging agent, anti-corrosive agent, mildewproofing agent, and the like. In the method a homogenous solution or emulsion is prepared by dissolving a surfactant and agents in a solvent such as water with the aid of ultrasonic energy or like, and the solution is made into an aerosol of fine particles by means of cavitation. The aerosol is brought into contact with an object, whereby the fine particles of aerosol are deposited on the object and a thin film of the solution is formed on the surface of the object due to the difference in surface tension between the surfactant and the object. After evaporation of the solvent, the agents are left on the surface of the object in the form of an extremely thin film. The specification discloses also apparatus for producing such an aerosol, selecting aerosol particles, and bringing the aerosol into contact with the surface of an object.
Abstract:
A method of continuous coating of metallic strip material carried into practice by using a continuous strip coating device wherein the thickness of the coating 27 is decided by a gap between a pickup roll 3 and a thickness control member 7 spaced apart a predetermined distance from the surface of the pickup roll. The method includes the step of (a) setting the pressure of the paint and/or the size of the gap based on the data obtained by preliminary experiments, or (b) directly measuring the gap 8 between the surface of the pickup roll 3 and the thickness control member 7 and feeding back the measurement, to bring the actual size of the gap into agreement with the value set beforehand at all times.
Abstract:
A method of continuously forming a coating film on a support having a large area with high productivity. The film can be an ultra-thin film having a uniform thickness. This method comprises coating continuously a coating solution having a solid content concentration of 0.05 to 40 wt.% to a support by using a gravure roll and forming a film having a dry thickness of 0.005 to 1 mu m.
Abstract:
A continuous painting method comprising the steps of forming a film of paint on a pickup roll by passing paint in a paint pan through a clearance between a doctor bar provided above the pickup roll and the pickup roll, by using a reverse roll coater; transferring a part or substantially the whole of the paint on the pickup roll on the surface of a painting roll rotating reversely with respect to the pickup roll; and then transferring a part or substantially the whole of the paint on the painting roll on the surface of a substrate board moving in a direction opposite to the direction in which the painting roll is rotated, characterized in that a metering roll (12) rotating in the same direction as the pickup roll (8) is provided close thereto to form meniscus (T) of paint between the pickup roll (8) and metering roll (12).
