Abstract:
A wood product having improved durability while maintaining the appearance of wood is produced by applying to the surface of a dry wood member a sealer coating containing a cyclic epoxy and an anhydride and curing the sealer while reacting, at least a portion of the epoxy, with lignin in the wood and at least a portion of the anhydride with cellulose and lignin in the wood to bind the sealer to the wood, and possible cross linking cellulose followed by applying a protective coating over the sealer before the sealer has been cured completely to bind the protective coating to the sealer. The protective coating provides a barrier to UV penetration and increases the durability of the surface.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a patterned, colored surface on an object of wooden or cellulose material comprises as the first step preparation of the pattern on the surface by removing or depressing predetermined portions of the surface, so that grooves or recesses are created therein. To create, by only one application of paint to the surface, a two-colored pattern in which the grooves have a color differing from that of the remainder of the surface there is subsequently applied to the whole surface, including recesses, a paint which in addition to dissolved dye or dye pigments and solvent, contains about 0,5 - 8%, calculated on the entire quantity of finished paint, inert or non-soluble, fine-grained particles of metal, glass, plastic, metal alloy, metal compound or the like having a maximum cross dimension which is substantially larger than the maximum cross dimension of the dye pigments and is comprised within the range 2 - 200 w , preferably being less than 20 µ. The invention also relates to articles manufactured by the method and a paint for carrying out the method.
Abstract:
To uniformly and economically disperse liquids, in the form of sprays of droplets, on surfaces of particles, the particles are lifted in a hollow drum by rotation of the drum about a near horizontal axis. Inside the drum, cantilevered non-rotating shafts position one or more powered slightly conical discs selectively tiltable to disperse sprays of droplets from a central area, in which particles are lifted while centrifugally held to the drum wall and then fall freely back to the wall to start another cycle. The cycles continue until the particles have a desired quantity of liquid on all their surfaces, when the particles leave the drum at an end opposite their entry end. Wood particles can be treated with liquid resin binders, and/or wax emulsions and subsequently formed into boards.
Abstract:
A method for creating a barrier to protect wood materials for house construction or wooden structures such as houses from humidity, moisture and/or biological attacks, such as wood decaying fungi and termites, is disclosed. The method is to treat wood itself or, preferably, the ground surface under the floor with a liquid containing a synthetic resin emulsion and an anti-fungal and wood-preservative agent and/or a pesticide such as termite-controlling agent, and further, a foaming agent. The barrier contains a selected copolymer of vinyl acetate and a polyurethane polymer.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a parquet structure and a method for its manufacturing. A parquet surface layer (1) is made of wood blocks, wherein the direction of wood grains is perpendicular or at an acute angle relative to the level of parquet surface. Prior to the lacquer finishing, the surface of an otherwise finished wood parquet is coated by applying a filling resin or varnish (2) which impregnates into the interstices of and inside the vertical wood grains to the depth of appr. 0.2 - 0.5 mm. The filling resin or varnish is used in the amount of 100 - 300 g/m . After setting, it is coated by applying several layers of parquet lacquer in a total amount of 20 - 50 g/m . The employed filling resin can be inexpensive polyester resin and the finishing lacquer can be conventional urethane lacquer.
