Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
A cermet solid end mill having a helix angle of 45 to 50 degrees and being composed essentially of NbC-TiC-TiN-based composition and being far more superior to conventional end mills in cutting characteristics, i. e., cutting length, tool life and durability.
Abstract:
The cutting insert 4 of a sectional milling cutter is fixed between two surfaces respectively of the support 2 and the fixing bracket, by means of a socket head screw 13. So as to position insert 4 rapidly and precisely, with constant cutting profile, the face 2' of the support is equipped with two surface plates 8 and 8' which project and converge together at an angle of approx. 75°. In correspondence, the cutting insert 4 has seats or apertures 6 and 6', forming a wedge which has an aperture angle equal to that of the planes 8 and 8' so that they can be coupled perfectly. The cutting insert 4 has an elliptical profile with two cutting surfaces 5 and 5' and with two apertures or seats 6 and 6' which are placed opposite each other and are superimposed by rotating the insert around the two respective transverse axes. On the apex of one of the two apertures 6 acts and presses the extremity 9' of the arc surface 9 which delimits the surface plate 2' and which extends parallel to the cutting surface 5 or 5'.
Abstract:
An end milling cutter (10) has a cutter head (14) with a pair of opposed slots (22) extending longitudinally inwardly from the end face (16) and substantially radially from the lateral surface (24) of the cutter head (14) to a central longitudinal axis (18). Each slot (22) forms an insert-supporting shoulder (30) which extends from the longitudinal axis (18) to the lateral surface (24) of the head (14). A triangular cutting insert (26) is received in each slot (22) and is supported on one side by the shoulder (30). A pressed dimple (44) extending inwardly of the cutter head (14) from the end face (16), engages and supports a second side of each of the inserts (26) such that the cutting edges thereof are accurately positioned at a prescribed diameter.
Abstract:
A cutting tool, a drill (10) for instance, having a drill body (11) and a cutting portion (12). The cutting portion (12) comprises a central cutting insert (24) and two peripheral cutting inserts (35, 36). A cutting edge extends along the three inserts. The inserts comprise surfaces for facilitating a tight connection between the parts of the cutting edge. The peripheral inserts (35, 36) consist of a material of greater hardness than the material in the central insert (24), and therefore the cutting edge is adapted for the varying cutting speeds in the radial direction of the tool.
Abstract:
An insert for use in a ball nose end mill (1) is provided that includes an insert body (22) having a top wall (24), a bottom wall (28) and at least one arcuate side wall (30). An arcuate cutting edge (34) is defined at an intersection between the top and side walls that includes a plurality of sinusoidal undulations (36) for reducing cutting forces, and vibration, and enhancing the breaking and removal of chips removed from a workpiece (66) during a cutting operation. An end portion (67) of the insert crosses the axis of rotation (A) when the insert is mounted in the seat of an end mill body (3), and the undulations (36) reduce the considerable shear forces applied to the cutting edge (34) at this location. The cutting edge has a profile which follows the contour of a sphere to permit machining a rounded cut. The side wall (30) of the insert body includes an upper relief portion (44) disposed directly under the cutting edge, with a relief angle for preventing the undulations from making unwanted striations or tool marks in the sidewalls of the rounded cut.
Abstract:
A cutting tool is disclosed, in particular for a spherical head finishing mill (19) for profile milling, said tool being provided with a body (2) made of hard metal. At least two symmetrically arranged inserts (3) made of hard metal serve as supports and are each provided with a cutting layer (5)/cutting material which forms the cutting edge (4). The inserts (3) are arranged on opposite sides of the cutting tool body (2) which sides form mounting surfaces (6, 7).
