Abstract: The invention relates to a procedure and an apparatus for the indication of overspeed when an elevator car (4) reaches the limit switch (44, 46) for a terminal floor. The speed is measured from an overspeed governor (6) by means of an inductive proximity switch (22, 24). An internal oscillator is used to measure the length of the signal obtained from the proximity switch (22, 24) and if the signal length is below a limit value when the elevator is within the area of a terminal limit switch (44, 46), the safety circuit is opened.
