    Abstract: La invencion se refiere a materiales orgánicos transparentes que presentan un índice de refraccion de más de 1.55, que carecen de distorsiones opticas y se preparan mediante polimerizacion por radicales de una composicion polimerizable que comprende a 00-95% en peso de por lo menos un monomero representado por la formula general I: (Ver Formula) en donde R = H o CH3 y m y n son independientemente 1 o 2; 5-20% en peso de por lo menos un monomero monovinílico aromático representado por la formula general II: (Ver Formula) en donde R1 = H o CH3; una cantidad efectiva de por lo menos un colorante que imparte propiedades fotocromicas el material, seleccionado de grupo de espiroxazinas, espiropiranos y cromenos; una cantidad efectiva de un agente de transferencia de cadena; y una cantidad efectiva de un iniciador de cromenos; una cantidad efectiva de un agente de transferencia de cadena; y una cantidad efectiva de un iniciador de polimerizacion por radicales, caracterizado porque el agente de transferencia de cadena es un alcanotiol lineal y el iniciador de polimerizacion por radicales es un compuesto diazo.

    Abstract: Se describen nuevos compuestos de naftopirano, fotocromicos, condensados con indeno, los ejemplos de los cuales son compuestos de naftopirano que tienen un grupo de indeno substituido o no substituido, las segunda y primera posiciones de los cuales están condensadas en el costado f de la parte nafto del naftopirano, y ciertos substituyentes en la tercera posicion del anillo de pirano. Ciertos substituyentes también pueden estar presentes en el quinto, sexto, séptimo, octavo, noveno, décimo primero, décimo segundo o décimo tercero átomos de carbono de los compuestos. Estos compuestos pueden representarse por la formula gráfica (I). También se describen materiales huésped, orgánicos, poliméricos, que contienen o están cubiertos con dichos compuestos. De igual modo, se describen artículosopticamente claros, tales como lentes oftálmicos u otras transparencias de plástico que incorporan los nuevos compuestos de naftopirano, o combinaciones de éstos con compuestos complementarios fotocromicos, es decir, ciertos otros compuestos de naftopiranos, benzopiranos y del tipo spiro(indolina).

    Abstract: Described are novel reversible photochromic naphthopyran compounds, examples of which are 3H-naphtho[2,1-b]pyrans having an acyl or aroyl oxy-bearing substituent at the number 6 carbon atom and certain substituents at the 3-position of the pyran ring. Certain substituents may also be present at the number 5, 7, 8, 9 or 10 carbon atom of the naphthopyran. These compounds may be represented by graphic formula (I). Also described are polymeric organic host materials that contain or that are coated with such compounds. Optically clear articles such as ophthalmic lenses or other plastic transparencies that incorporate the novel naphthopyran compounds or combinations thereof with complementary photochromic compounds, e.g., certain other naphthopyrans, benzopyrans, and spiro(indoline) type compounds, are also described.
