Abstract:
Structural members such an angle iron or channel members are bent to a desired radius by crimping the flange or flanges thereof to provide V-shaped pockets or crimps therein. The crimping tool includes a crimping jaw which, before crimping, locates the tool against the leg of the angle or channel member but which swings slightly away from it during crimping movement effected on the intersected flange so as to avoid tearing or shearing the flange while still locating the crimp very close to the leg. An improved form of angle or channel member is provided with openings along the intersection of the leg and flange to allow accurate positioning of the crimp and to further militate against tearing or shearing of the flange.
Abstract:
An inflatable structure, such as an automobile tire or a rubber boat, or a patch for use in the repair of pneumatic devices, has first and second groups of elastic strips woven as strips in intertwining relationship. A method of repairing a damaged portion of a radial ply tire uses a tire patch having a first group of elastic strips and a second group of elastic strips extending at right angles to the strips in the first group. These strips in the first group are oriented in parallel to the radial plies when the repair patch is applied to the damaged portion. In this manner, the strips in the second group are oriented at right angles to the radial plies. The strips in the first and second groups are preferably woven as strips in intertwining relationship.
Abstract:
A luminescence spectrophotometer having an excitation monochromator and a dual channel emission monochromator which receives light through one channel to form a monochromatic calibration beam. The beam is then split into two parts. One part is directed to a first detector having known wavelength response characteristics, and the second part is sent back through the other monochromator channel to a second detector. The ratio of these detector outputs is measured to determine the relative transmission and sensitivity of the luminescence system at each wavelength. Monochromatic light from the excitation monochromator also is split into two parts, with one going to a sample of luminescent material and the other going to the first detector alternately with the first part of the calibration beam. The emitted light from the sample and the second part of the calibration beam are directed to opposite sides of a rotating chopper and then alternately through the second monochromator channel to the second detector. The readings from the two detectors are combined in an electrical circuit to obtain a ratio that is a function of the ratio of luminescent to excitation intensities and is independent of source brightness and detector sensitivity.
Abstract:
A knife blade is provided with a sharpened end and an attachment end having a spool or reel for a fishing line attached thereto. A knife handle is provided with a blade receiving compartment and a storage compartment for carrying fishing gear. The handle may be placed on either end so that in one position the fishing reel is exposed with the sharpened end of the blade covered and in a second position the fishing reel is received in the handle with the sharpened blade protruding.
Abstract:
A display device for displaying merchandise such as a selection of prerecorded tape cartridges and cassettes, having a housing with a plurality of vertically pivotal holders in which tape cassettes, cartridges and similar merchandise can be displayed so that the information printed in the exterior of the merchandise can be viewed by the customers through openings provided in the holder. These holders are so designed that the merchandise can be placed in or removed from the holders by authorized personnel through the rear or interior of the housing, yet customers are prevented from removing the merchandise from the holders from the exterior or front of the housing.
Abstract:
A linkage for securing a motorcycle to a fixture such as a telephone pole to prevent the theft of the motorcycle. The linkage consists of a bar lock having a plurality of bar links which are pivotally fastened together end to end by rivots. The bar lock has two free ends which may be fastened together by a barrel lock. Each bar link consists of a length of steel bar, and the bar links pivot relative to one another at the rivoted connections so that the bar lock may be folded together into a compact package for storage on the motorcycle while the bike is being used.
Abstract:
A clamp particularly useful in surgical procedures including handle means and jaws, the jaws being adjustable with respect to the handle means.
Abstract:
A spectroradiometer having two detectors and a pair of monochromator channels for measuring the intensity of light emitted from an unknown source. One of the monochromator channels is illuminated with light from a reference source, and a fraction of the resulting monochromatic beam is received by the first detector to produce a reference signal. Another fraction of the monochromatic beam is combined with light from the unknown source by directing the two to opposite sides of a rotating chopper and then alternately through the other monochromator channel to the second detector. The second detector produces successive signals respectively corresponding to the intensity of the light from the unknown source and the intensity of the light from the reference source. The ratio between these signals is multiplicatively combined in an electrical circuit with the reference signal from the first detector, thus providing a measurement of the unknown intensity. In cases in which conventional detectors are employed, certain preferred embodiments of the invention include an additional chopper for the light illuminating the monochromator channels to enable a correction for background or dark signals from the detectors.

A mailbox construction that includes interiorly located baffles for directing articles of mail deposited in a mail slot to the interior of the mailbox, the forward and bottom walls being shaped and constructed to cause the deposited mail to be inclined forwardly and cooperating with the baffles to prevent unauthorized access to the mail articles as located within the interior of the mailbox.
Abstract:
A string of nested, overlapping structural members for supporting strand elements by joining successive members lying in parallel planes. All members are provided with a series of holes for receiving fasteners, each series of holes comprising an outer set and an alternate inner set disposed along laterally spaced centerlines such that the inner holes of an upper member are registrable with the outer holes of an underlying member. In this way, any member may be selected for either disposition to obtain the desired relation within a string.
