Abstract:
Endoprosthesis, such as a stent, includes at least one annular element defined by a first set of strut members interconnected to define apices proximate opposite sides of the annular element. The annular element further includes a foot extension extending between at least one pair of circumferentially-adjacent strut members. The foot extension has first and second foot portions extending circumferentially from corresponding ends of the circumferentially-adjacent strut members, and are contoured to provide at least two areas of flexure. The first and second foot portions are joined at a toe portion of the foot extension, and define a circumferentially-directed apex between the pair of circumferentially-adjacent strut members. Preferably, at least one or more additional annular elements, each defined by interconnected strut members, are provided. The annular elements are generally expandable between a delivery configuration and a deployed configuration. The annular elements are longitudinally aligned and connected at connection locations. Preferably, each connection location includes a foot extension, such as by an overlapping pattern between the longitudinally-adjacent annular elements or by a connector extending therebetween.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a class of small molecule hydroxamic acid compounds capable of inhibiting histone deacetylases (HDACs). The present invention also relates to methods of preparation of hydroxamic acid HDAC inhibitor compounds of the invention, which are N-substituted-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline hydroxamic acid derivatives, and their incorporation into pharmaceutical compositions and methods of administration. The present invention also relates to N-substituted-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline hydroxamic acid derivatives, which may be prepared as a hydroxamic acid HDAC inhibitor compound library that can be utilized in screening methods known in the art.
Abstract:
Methods for the microbial production of para-hydroxycinnamic acid (pHCA) and cinnamic acid (CA) are provided. Microbes producing either tyrosine or phenylalanine are grown in the presence of either tyrosine ammonium lyase or phenylalanine ammonium lyase respectively where some part of the fermentation is accomplished at alkaline pH. The process results in greater yields and higher rates of para-hydroxycinnamic acid (pHCA) and cinnamic acid (CA) production as compared with fermentation exclusively at physiological pH.
Abstract:
A golf club head with low peripheral and rearward weighting includes C-shaped and annular weights connected with at least one of the rear and bottom surfaces, respectively, of the head. The weighting within the peripheral weights is adjustable between the heel, rear, and toe portions of the head to customize the weight distribution of the head in accordance with a golfer's swing. The added weight and its orientation increases the moment of inertia of the head and reduces the rotation thereof.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a transgenic fly that expresses the Iowa mutant version of the human Aβ42 peptide of human amyloid-β precursor protein (APP), and a double transgenic fly that expresses both the Tau protein and the human Aβ42Iowa peptide of human amyloid-β precursor protein (APP). The transgenic flies of the present invention provide for models of neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease. The invention further discloses methods for identifying genetic modifiers, as well as screening methods to identify therapeutic compounds to treat neurodegenerative disorders using the transgenic flies.

Abstract:
A continuous power system assembly is provided that includes an integrated shaft-driven unit. The unit contains a turbine, an alternator, a flywheel and a feed pump, all of which are coupled to the shaft. During various modes of operation, any of the turbine, alternator or flywheel may provide the torque used to drive the shaft. When the alternator is not providing the necessary torque to drive the shaft, it is operated as a generator that provides back-up power to a load. The present invention also includes a unique nozzle design that improves the ease with the nozzles may be manufactured in comparison to known designs. The nozzle is manufactured as two halves which are mated as part of the manufacturing process. The individual nozzles may, because only half of the nozzle segments exist on either half of the nozzle block, be easily manufactured using conventional machining.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing activated, substantially monodisperse, phosphorescent particles and particles formed thereby. The method suspends substantially monodisperse, phosphor-precursor particles in a fluidizing gas and then introduces a reactive gas to contact the suspended phosphor-precursor particles. Heating the suspended phosphor-precursor particles to a reaction temperature then forms unactivated phosphorescent particles. In another embodiment, the phosphor-precursor particles may be heated to a reaction temperature where they decompose to form the unactivated phosphor particles. The unactivated phosphorescent particles suspended within the fluidizing gas are activated by heating the unactivated phosphorescent particles to an activation temperature forming activated, substantially monodisperse, phosphorescent particles.
Abstract:
A method for sharing a resource among a plurality of clients is provided. A request is received by a client requesting access to a shared resource. A usage rate is determined for the client. The usage rate of clients are reduced by transmitting a request for a usage reduction to the clients. The request for the usage reduction is initiated independent of a receipt of a message from the clients whose usage rates are being reduced. If a requested usage reduction would reduce a client below a minimum usage rate, then the usage rate of the client is set to the minimum usage rate. The minimum usage rate can be established by the client or by configuration data. The usage rate of a non-real-time client is adjusted based on a uniform rate. If the uniform rate is higher than a maximum usage rate, then the usage rate of a non-real-time client is adjusted to the maximum usage rate. The maximum usage rate can be established by the client or by configuration data.
