Abstract: An inkjet nozzle device configured for venting a gas bubble during droplet ejection. The inkjet nozzle device includes: a firing chamber for containing ink, the firing chamber having a floor and a roof defining an elongate nozzle aperture having a perimeter; and an elongate heater element bonded to the floor of the firing chamber, the heater element and nozzle aperture having aligned longitudinal axes. The device is configured to satisfy the relationships A =swept volume/area of heater element=8 to 14 microns; and B=firing chamber volume/swept volume=2 to 6. The swept volume is defined as the volume of a shape defined by a projection from the perimeter of the nozzle aperture to the floor of the firing chamber, and includes a volume contained within the nozzle aperture.

Abstract: A method of printing from a fixed inkjet printhead having a plurality of ink planes. The method includes the steps of: feeding a print medium past the printhead in a media feed direction, the media feed direction defining relative upstream and downstream sides of the printhead; printing an image onto the print medium, the image being defined by image data;and printing a keep-wet pattern onto the print medium from each ink plane of the printhead, the keep-wet pattern being defined by a plurality of dots printed at a frequency sufficient to maintain hydration of each nozzle in the printhead. A first keep-wet pattern from a first ink plane is printed at a higher frequency than a second keep-wet pattern from a second ink plane, the first ink plane being furthest upstream in the printhead.

Abstract: A method of generating print data for an inkjet printhead having a plurality of ink planes. The method includes the steps of: receiving image data for a print job in a printer controller; retrieving keep-wet pattern data for each ink plane of the printhead, the retrieved keep-wet pattern data being determined using one or more input parameters; generating first print data for each ink plane in the printer controller based on the received image data; merging the first print data with the keep-wet pattern data to provide second print data for each ink plane; and sending the second print data from the printer controller to the printhead, thereby causing the printhead to print an image together with a keep-wet pattern. The keep-wet pattern is defined by a plurality of dots printed at a frequency sufficient to maintain hydration of each nozzle in the printhead.

Abstract: A process for filling one or more etched holes defined in a frontside surface of a wafer substrate. The process includes the steps of: (i) depositing a layer of a photoimageable thermoplastic polymer onto the frontside surface and into each hole; (ii) reflowing the polymer; (iii) selectively removing the polymer from regions outside a periphery of each hole, the selective removing comprising exposure and development of the polymer; (iv) optionally repeating steps (i) to (iii) until each hole is overfilled with the polymer; and (v) planarizing the frontside surface to provide one or more holes filled with a plug of the polymer. Each plug has a respective upper surface coplanar with the frontside surface.

Abstract: An ink delivery system for an inkjet printer includes: a positive ink line; a negative ink line; and one or more print modules interconnected between the positive ink line and the negative ink line. Each print module includes: an inlet port; an outlet port; a printhead interconnected between the inlet port and the outlet port; a control valve positioned at the inlet port for controlling an ink pressure in the printhead; an ink pressure sensor for sensing an ink pressure in the print module; and a controller for receiving feedback from the pressure sensor and controlling the control valve. During printing, the ink pressure sensor, the controller and the control valve cooperate to control a backpressure in the printhead within a predetermined backpressure range.

Abstract: A printer having a beltless guide for guiding print media around a curved media feed path. The guide includes: first and second opposed guide surfaces for guiding print media therebetween; and a chicane corresponding to a point of inflection in the curved media feed path. The media path does not follow a curvature of the chicane and the chicane is configured to transfer print media from contact with the second surface to contact with the first surface or vice versa.
