Abstract:
An improved method for separating solid particles from liquids, such as dewatering and thickening of sludge collected in a container (1), involves the use of at least one drainage unit (9) having doubled screened jacket walls (25, 26) defining a dewatering chamber (10). The liquid relieved of solids within the chamber is subjected to a turbulent motion acting against said screened jacket walls for obstruction of the solids deposition at the wall surfaces of the chamber facing the sludge in the container. The turbulent motion is obtained by a forced fluid F introduced in the chamber through one or more tubes (30, 31). The fluid may favorably be in form of compressed air or water returned from the reject system (14, 16).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a continuous-working process and apparatus for replacing the liquid in a liquid suspension of a fibrous material with another liquid by forming of this material a bed on a moving filter surface and by displacing the liquid present in this bed with the other liquid. The bed of material is formed on a cylindrical filter surface installed in a vertical orientation below the liquid surface in a container and conveys it continuously forward filtration and several successive liquid displacements effected by maintaining a hydrostatic pressure difference across the formed bed, which is conveyed continuously horizontally forward, and through it there flow liquids horizontally during the filtration and liquid displacement.
Abstract:
A strainer that is used in association with a motor-driven pump that sucks water out of outdoor pits, reservoirs, streams, ponds, and the like, usually for irrigation or watering purposes. The strainer has a cylindrical screen disposed on a spool-like body for rotation substantially about its own axis. Nozzles that are disposed interiorly of the screen spray water outwardly through the screen to both rotate the screen and to dislodge any debris that may have accumulated on it due to the pump suction force. The screen is a plastic that has a specific gravity of approximately one and it is guided for rotation by the margins of circular discs that form the axial ends of the spool-like body.
Abstract:
A frontal separator method and apparatus for separating particles from fluids, such as microorganisms from juice, and for providing a sample of juice having a concentrated number of microorganisms therein for ease of detection thereof, comprising a hollow, rotatable, perforated, cylindrical rotor mounted inside of a spaced-apart outer case with an annular separation chamber therebetween. The fluid with particles to be separated therefrom is fed into the separation chamber, the fluid flows through the holes in the rotor and exits through an outlet port while the particles exit from a waste port of the separation chamber. The outer casing preferably also rotates with the rotor, and the holes, which have a diameter substantially greater than that of the particles, are preferably at an angle to a radius of the rotor.
Abstract:
A floor mounted de-watering spin chamber is connected with a kitchen disposer-grinder for de-watering and collecting ground food scraps that are suitable for garden composts. The spin chamber contains a perforated rotary spin basket and has a rigid lid with a rigid inlet tube insertable in a rigid body so that only one latch is necessary to hold the lid securely on the spin chamber. A diverter valve operated by a manual knob controls the discharge of water and solid material from the disposer-grinder selectively through the spin chamber or a drainpipe and the knob also controls a switch for an electric motor driving the spin basket. The drain pipe may also receive water and solid material from a second sink which is not equipped with a disposer-grinder and which material is not treated by the present apparatus, a baffle in a pipe connection fitting preventing such material from backing up into the spin chamber.
Abstract:
Apparatus for separating liquids and solids, comprising, separator screen means for receiving and separating the solids and liquids, conveyor means for feeding the separated solids upwardly from the separator screen means, and compactor means for compacting the solids, the conveyor means comprising a first conveyor extending at a first upward inclination through the separator screen means and a second conveyor extending further upwardly and at a greater inclination than the first conveyor means.
Abstract:
A tubular filter element consisting of a filter leaf which is pleated and connected at both its fold ends to a hollow cylindrical filter body (F) both of whose front surfaces are sealed by end caps (11, 13), one end cap (13) of which opens, as a connection cap, the hollow core (10') for communication with a housing space (3) of a surrounding housing, the force flow guidance of the fluid to be treated takes place along the folds (10) through a tube (6', 5) which extends through the hollow core (10') of the filter body (F), rests on the fold edges of the filter body (F), is open at one end in the area of the fold range functioning as outlet or inlet (20), is tapered in the area of the fold range functioning as inlet or outlet (21) and forms a connection (5) for the recirculating flow of fluid coaxially to the connection cap (3) for the flow of fluid to be treated which cap establishes the housing communication.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for refining oil which in heated condition is used in the production of consumable products such as French fried potatoes by feeding the oil immediately after starting the baking process through a filter system within the time within which free fat acids or fat acid oxydation products could be formed.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a sieve for a paper pulp scrubber or similar equipment, and to a method for fabricating such a sieve. The sieve is produced by mechanical interfit of bars with support members, the bars carrying notches, the lips of which engage at least one V-shaped lateral groove formed in each support member, while the support members present, on their face receiving the bars, a first set of notches for positioning the bars. The cross-section of the support members at the level of the first notches has the same configuration and dimensions as the cross-section of the second notches and the cross-section of bars at the level of notches has the same configuration as the cross-section of notches formed in the support members. Assembling is made by bending a bar by an angle of about 20-25.degree. for widening a second notch and inserting a support member therein. The bar is then straightened back, so that the support member will be firmly clamped in the notch.
Abstract:
A backwash strainer having a generally cylindrical filter element made up of a stack of spaced rings that are triangular in cross section, with the bases of said triangular rings disposed in a cylindrical surface. A hollow backwash arm has an open slot disposed on the inside of the cylindrical surface which operates at a predetermined distance from said element. The incoming water in said strainer flows from the inlet up through the straining element to the outlet. The backwash arm receives water from around the straining element, which flows through the element into the backwash slot and out with the debris accumulated on said strainer. Since the debris is supported on the flat interior of the rings, water flowing back into the arm into the slot in the hollow backwash arm forces trash and other debris from the rings down to the backwash water outlet. Water flowing through the clearance between the bars as used, helps flush the debris off the inside of the filter element.
