Abstract:
A suspended nutrition composition includes a foamed material, a colloid layer and a nutrient. The foamed material having a plurality of pores includes a starch, a biodegradable polyester and a plasticizer. The pores are formed by bubbles produced from a physical foaming agent. The colloid layer covers a surface of the foamed material. The nutrient is dispersed in the foamed material.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a thermo formed poly(biphenyl ether sulfone) foam article which comprises following three steps: Step 1. preparing a poly(biphenyl ether sulfone) foamable composition [composition (FP)], foaming the composition (FP) to yield a foamed poly(biphenyl ether sulfone) material [foam (P) material], and Step 2. molding said foam (P) material under the effect of heat and pressure to provide a thermoformed foamed article. Step 3. molding said foam (P) material under the effect of heat and pressure to provide a thermoformed foamed article.
Abstract:
A micro-voided film comprising high density polyethylene having a molecular weight of at least about 200,000, and low aspect ratio filler having a mean particle size from about 1 to about 25 microns. The film has a thickness of from about 10 to about 75 microns and a void fraction of from about 0.60 to about 0.75. The micro-voided film is made by a process comprising extruding the composition into a film having a thickness of from about 50 to about 300 microns, and orienting the extruded film using a high stalk, blown film process. The process produces a stabilized high stalk for increasing the production rate of blown, high molecular weight polyethylene, while increasing the film's physical and mechanical properties. The high stalk can be stabilized by application of high velocity, low volume flow rate of air over the interior and exterior surfaces of the extruded film.
Abstract:
The invention relates to flame retarded extruded polystyrene foams with a very low halogen content in the final product, i.e. containing a very low content of hexabromocyclododecane or preferably hexabromocyclododecane free, and a process for their preparation. The invention also relates to their use in construction, as building thermal insulating materials, or in transportation.
Abstract:
A polymer composition containing a polymer component containing styrenic polymer, a brominated vinyl aromatic/butadiene copolymer and a polyethylene wax, concentration of the polyethylene wax is 0.02 to 1.0 weight percent based on weight of the polymer component, the polyethylene wax has average molecular weight of 10,000 g/mol or less than 10,000 g/mol. The polymer composition can be a polymeric foam.
Abstract:
Polymer foams incorporating fibrous ingredients are disclosed. The fibrous ingredients act as service temperature enhancing agents, increasing the maximum service temperature of the polymer foams as compared to comparable polymer foams that do not incorporate fibrous ingredients. Particularly useful fibrous ingredients include glass fibers and polyaramides having a branched fibrous structure, an example of which is poly para-phenyleneterephthalamide pulp.
Abstract:
Prepare a closed-cell alkenyl aromatic polymer foam by an extrusion process using a blowing agent composition that contains at least 30 weight-percent of the chlorine-free hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent such that the foam has a density of 48 kilograms per cubic meter or less, contains more than 50 weight-percent styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer based on total polymer weight and at least eight weight-percent of a chlorine-free hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent that has a lower solubility in polystyrene than 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134).
Abstract:
A foam containing 30 to 95% by weight of a polyolefin-based resin and 5 to 70% by weight of a hydrophilizing agent composed of a cellulose-based powder, the surface of the foam being in a melt fractured state.
Abstract:
Polymeric foam and polymeric foam products that contain a foamable polymer material, at least one blowing agent, activated carbon, and water are provided. The activated carbon acts as both a water absorbent and carrier for the water. The activated carbon is able to control and increase cell size even in the presence of carbon dioxide, HFCs, and/or infrared attenuating agents. Additionally, the activated carbon permits a desired amount of water to be introduced into the polymer melt. By controlling the amount of activated carbon and its water content during an extrusion process, a broad range of cell sizes can be obtained in the extruded product. In exemplary embodiments, the activated carbon is added to a primacy extruder and water is directly injected into a secondary extruder. Alternatively, the activated carbon is compounded with a polymer resin, pre-hydrated by conditioning or steam impregnation, and added to a primary or secondary extruder.
