Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition comprising a vinyl acetate copolymer and a HASE thickener comprising structural units of ethyl acrylate, methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, and a hydrophobic macromonomer. The composition of the present invention shows an improvement in heat aged stability over a vinyl acetate copolymer based paint thickened with a HASE that does not include structural units of acrylic acid.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for producing a binder composition, wherein the method comprises the following steps: (i) forming an aqueous composition comprising reactant components including lignin molecules of 11-60 lignin units, lignin molecules of 1-10 lignin units, polymerizable substance and crosslinking agent in the presence of a catalyst; and (ii) cooking the composition at a temperature of 60-95° C. for polymerizing the reactant components until a binder composition with a predetermined viscosity value is formed.
Abstract:
This invention pertains to UV-absorbing coatings that may optionally be covered with an anti-reflective layer and that are applied to exterior-facing surfaces such as a window or other glass surface that are transparent or translucent. Such coatings are visible to various species of birds, but are generally transparent to humans. The UV absorbing coatings have a silane- or silane-derived chromophore or a combination of a silane- or siloxane-based material and a chromophore, which chromophores absorb UV light at about 300 to about 400 nm. More particularly, the silane- or siloxane-based chromophore is 2-hydroxy-4-(3-triethoxysilylpropoxy) diphenylketone or a derivative thereof.
Abstract:
Zwitterionic crosslinking agents, crosslinked zwitterionic hydrogels prepared from copolymerization of zwitterionic monomers with the zwitterionic crosslinking agent, methods for making crosslinked zwitterionic hydrogels, and devices that include and methods that use the crosslinked zwitterionic hydrogels.
Abstract:
This invention relates to epoxy resin formulations for preforms to be used in molding processes, especially resin transfer molding processes and to methods for preparing the performs. The epoxy formulation is based on liquid or solid epoxy resins blended, with medium to high molecular weight, phenoxy resins. These formulations are highly compatible with epoxy curable injection resins, and more over are reacted in the polymeric matrix, without reducing the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the cured composite material.
Abstract:
A solvent free method for making an ethylene propylene diene terpolymer latex by blending water with 1 weight percent to 50 weight percent surfactant; blending solvent free ethylene propylene diene terpolymer with the water and surfactant at a low pressure to form a terpolymer mixture; high shear mixing the terpolymer mixture at 0.5 atm to 1.5 atm for 5 minutes to 24 hours at a temperature from 20 degrees Celsius to 100 degrees Celsius to form a solvent free ethylene propylene diene terpolymer latex formation, wherein the solvent free ethylene propylene diene terpolymer latex formation has a viscosity from 1 centipoise to 2000 centipoise; a density from 0.8 to 1.1; and a shelf life of from 7 days to 365 days without separating or stratifying.
Abstract:
Latex blend formulations that include a high solids cross-linked ethylene propylene diene terpolymer latex with acrylics, polyurethane, epoxy, or alkyd resin usable as a waterproofing material for roofs or usable in paints and adhesives.
Abstract:
A fiber can be made having a structure with an axial core and a coating layer. The fiber can have a polymer core and one or two layers surrounding the core. The fine fiber can be made from a polymer material and a resinous aldehyde composition such that the general structure of the fiber has a polymer core surrounded by at least a layer of the resinous aldehyde composition.
Abstract:
A curable aqueous composition that includes a first polymer that includes carboxyl groups, and a second component that includes a second water insoluble polymer and a stabilizer. The second component includes functional groups that react with the carboxyl groups of the first polymer during cure, is free from carboxylic acid groups, or a combination thereof. The composition, when dry, exhibits a first Tg of at least 10° C. and a second Tg of at least 50° C.
Abstract:
A process for producing polymer particles by polymerizing liquid droplets in a gas phase surrounding the droplets, said droplets comprising at least one monomer and being coated with particulate solids during the polymerization.
