Abstract:
Heat activated, translucent marking films are disclosed. The translucent, heat activated marking film has a transferable, translucent, plastic film and field of a heat activated, translucent adhesive adhered to the plastic film. The marking film is prepared and stored on a polymeric liner until transfer by heat to a substrate, such as a back-lit sign or an awning. The film can be cut into images prior to heat transfer to the substrate according to commercial graphics techniques.
Abstract:
Heat resistant, pressure sensitive adhesive labels, tapes and similar constructions are provided, and comprise a heat resistant face stock laminated to a pressure sensitive adhesive and a release liner. In one embodiment, the face stock is a crosslinked polyolefin. In another embodiment, the face stock is a unitary coextrudate of two or more layers of polymeric material, an outer layer of which is a heat resistant polymer such as nylon 6. The heat resistant constructions are useful as electrophotographically printable labels and tapes.
Abstract:
A die-cut label is described which is prepared from a composite which comprises (A) an extruded cast multilayer film oriented in the machine-direction at a stretch ratio between about 2 and about 9 which comprises (A-1) at least one skin layer comprising an olefin-SPA blend comprising from about 30% to about 60% by weight of SPA; and (A-2) at least one relatively thick inner layer comprising a mixture of an olefin-SPA blend and a compatibilizer wherein the mixture comprises greater than 15% by weight up to about 40% by weight SPA, and wherein the total thickness of said at least one skin layer (A-1) and said inner layer (A-2) is less than about 3 mils; and (B) an adhesive layer associated with said film for adhering said label to a substrate.
Abstract:
A piece of microwave-active tape which is odor-free and physiologically inert can be adhered to a food package and remains strongly adhered during cooking at temperatures of at least 200.degree. C. The tape has layers of microwave-active material and a pressure-sensitive adhesive which is a polymeric .alpha.-olefin that has been cured to afford a "Peel Value" of at least 5 N/dm and a "Shrink Back" at 220.degree. C. of less than 5%. The tape can have a flexible backing such as a low-adhesion carrier web which can be stripped off from a piece of the tape that has been applied to a microwave food package, or when the backing is heat-resistant, it can be left in place.
Abstract:
A reclosable mechanical fastener comprising a fastening component having a surface structure by which two such fastening components can become releasably attached. The novel fastening component is a composite of a tough substrate and a fastening layer that forms said surface structure, which fastening layer is formed from a cured oligomeric resin composition having one or more like or different hard segments, one or more like or different soft segments, and one or more like or different monovalent moieties containing a radiation-sensitive, addition-polymerizable, function group. The novel fastener forms stronger linkages than were possible with similar fasteners of the prior art.

Abstract:
Film-forming means are coextruded to form all plastic multilayer liners and facestocks for pressure-sensitive labels, tapes, decals, signs, bumper stickers, and other products formed from sheet and roll stock. Fill means in a charge for the liner coextrusion affects stiffness and dimensional stability of the liner and/or affects the roughness of a liner face or faces. The film materials of the layers of the constructions are selected according to the cost/benefit characteristics of candidate materials considering the functional or operational requirements of the layer in question.
Abstract:
A plastics film having a two- or three-layer construction comprising a plastics film layer and a polymer blend layer formed on at least one side of the plastics film layer, one side of the polymer blend layer facing away from the plastics film layer being a satin surface.
Abstract:
Subject of the invention is a tear strip having a supporting base stretched in predominantly one direction, which strip may be provided with an adhesive layer and is characterized in that it has a supporting base of at least one base layer, which is provided with at least one tough layer, which is tougher than the base layer.
