Abstract: A cable-stranding apparatus includes a stationary guide, a motor, a driven guide, and a controller electrically coupled to the motor. The stationary guide is configured to guide strand elements in a spaced-apart configuration and to pass a core member. The motor is operatively associated with a guide driver. The driven guide is disposed at least partially within the guide driver so as to rotate therewith. The driven guide is configured to receive the strand elements from the stationary guide, individually guide the strand elements received from the stationary guide, and to further pass the core member. The controller is electrically coupled to the motor and configured to control the rotational speed and direction of the motor.

Abstract: A method for fabricating a wire strand from parallel steel wires for a main cable of a suspension bridge, the method including: 1) selecting and coloring a steel wire as a marking steel wire which is to be positioned at a vertex of a wire strand including a plurality of parallel steel wires and having an equilateral polygon section; 2) drawing position markers at positions of the standard steel wire corresponding to control points of splay cable saddles, center points of main cable saddles, middle points of side spans, a middle point of a middle span, and starting points of anchor heads of anchor spans of a suspension bridge; 3) relaxing and shaping coils of the steel wires to yield a prefabricated wire strand; 4) preforming the positions of the cable saddles; 5) coiling the wire strand including; and 6) casting anchor of the wire strand.

Abstract: Elevator coated ropes or belts are disclosed. The coated rope or belt may include at least one cord and a jacket retaining the at least one cord. The cord may include a plurality of filaments. The filaments are free of second-order helical structure. In a first embodiment, the filaments includes at least one inner filament and a plurality of outer filaments surrounding the at least one inner filament. The outer filaments are bunched together by forming a first-order helical structure through the length of the cord. In a second general embodiment, the filaments are free of both first- and second-order helical structures. The filaments are bunched together by a restraining loop or adhesive at one or more locations along the length of the cord. Methods of making the tension cord are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for producing a strand or cable, in which fibers and/or wires are twisted at a twisting point to form the strand or cable. The fibers and/or wires are coated with a liquefied matrix material before and/or at the twisting point and are embedded in the matrix material during twisting. The fibers and/or wires are immersed in the matrix material before and/or at the twisting point and the formed strand or the formed cable is cooled after the twisting in order for the matrix material to solidify, preferably by air or in a cooling liquid, for example water.
