Abstract:
A semiconductor integrated circuit device includes: a first large scale integrated circuit including a plurality of first logical blocks; a programmable second large scale integrated circuit connected the first large scale integrated circuit and including a second logical block; a memory storing data for achieving the purposes of the first logical blocks; and a control unit that, when a failure is detected in any of the first logical blocks during the operation of the first large scale integrated circuit, writes the data for the faulty first logical block stored in the memory to the second logical block, and uses the second logical block in place of the faulty first logical block.
Abstract:
A distributed directory service for an online services network. The directory service comprises multiple, separate services, referred to as “Directory Service Providers.” Each Directory Service Provider stores and provides access to a respective hierarchical directory structure, with nodes of the directory structures representing the various on-line services and other content entities which may be accessed by end users of the network. A common application program interface is implemented by all Directory Service Providers, allowing client applications running on computers of end users to access the different directory structures using a common set of software methods. Various forms of node filtering, including language-based filtering and access rights filtering, are performed by the Directory Service Providers to determine which nodes to show end users.
Abstract:
A data processing system includes at least a first storage system, a second storage system and a third storage system. The third storage system maintains a replication of data stored in the first storage system. When updating data in the first storage system, the first storage system updates the replication of data stored in the third storage system and creates a journal. The journal is formed from a copy of data used for update and update information such as a write command for update, etc. The second storage system also maintains a replication of data stored in the first storage system. The second storage system obtains the journal, and updates data stored therein corresponding to data stored in the first storage system in the order of data update performed in the first storage system. When updating data stored in the third storage system corresponding to data stored in the first storage system, the third storage system creates a journal using data update numbers created in the first storage system. When the first storage system fails, the second storage system obtains the journal from the third storage system, and updates data stored therein corresponding to data stored in the first storage system in the order of data update performed in the first storage system.
Abstract:
A controller interconnect structure within a RAID disk array enables continuous low latency/high bandwidth communications between a plurality of controller pairs within the array. Mirror buses carry high speed mirror traffic between mirrored controllers performing mirrored memory operations. Loop buses carry inter-processor communications and other traffic between controller pairs coupled together in a controller loop. Benefits of the interconnect structure include an ability to support continued controller communications and online disk array operations under various failure and repair conditions that might otherwise render a disk array inoperable. In addition, the controller interconnect structure provides for easy expansion of the number of controllers within disk arrays as arrays continue to be scaled up in size to meet increasing storage demands from user host systems.
Abstract:
The access control device comprises a first interface (IF) which receives access requests from a host device, and a second IF which respectively accesses one or a plurality of access destination candidates in an external device. The second IF attempts to access a particular access destination candidate if the first IF has received an access request, and outputs a judgment result indicating that a recovery has been performed if it is determined that a recovery has been performed after the access attempt has failed. The first IF detects whether there has been a recovery in the access path to the particular access destination candidate by referring to the judgment result output by the second IF.
Abstract:
The present invention suggests a storage system capable of realizing highly reliable data back-up.The storage system includes: a first disk array apparatus for providing first volumes for storing data sent from a host system; a second disk array apparatus for providing second volumes for storing back-up data of the first volumes; and a console terminal for operating the first disk array apparatus. The console terminal is equipped with a setting unit for setting a priority for each first volume in accordance with an external command. The first disk array apparatus is equipped with: a storage unit for storing the priorities set by the priority setting unit; and a transfer unit for reading the priorities from the storage unit upon receiving the data and transferring the data stored in the first volumes to the second volumes of the second disk array apparatus in order of descending priority of the first volumes that store the data.
Abstract:
A server blade includes a printed circuit board (PCB), including a connector for connecting the blade to a backplane comprising a local bus, and a removal mechanism for use by a person to disconnect the connector from the backplane for removal of the blade from a chassis while the chassis is powered up. The server blade also includes an I/O link and a server, each affixed on the PCB. The server transmits packets on the I/O link to a storage controller enclosed in the chassis. The packets include commands to transfer data to at least one storage device controlled by the storage controller. A portion of the storage controller, affixed on the PCB, receives the packets from the server on the I/O link, and forwards the commands on the backplane local bus to another portion of the storage controller affixed on a separate PCB enclosed in the chassis.
Abstract:
A method for transferring data within a network storage appliance is disclosed. The method includes transmitting a packet on an I/O link from a server to a first portion of a storage controller. Transmitting the packet on the I/O link is performed within a single blade module in a chassis enclosing the storage appliance. The method also includes forwarding a data transfer command within the packet from the first portion of the storage controller to a second portion of the storage controller. Forwarding the data transfer command is performed via a local bus on a backplane of the chassis through a connector of the blade connecting the blade to the backplane.
Abstract:
A method is provided in a server, having a first operating system (Windows) and a second operating system (MCP), to allow both environments to share the same resilient and redundant benefits provided by the Fibre Channel storage systems with multi-path capabilities and to ensure that MCP formatted disk units in a virtualized environment in the first operating system will only receive and accept MCP formatted data from the second.
Abstract:
A system and method enables a file server, to support multi path input/output operations for Fibre Channel devices. Upon each Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop initialization event generated, the system and method updates a path and device instance to track multiple paths to a given device. While the file server is attempting input/output operations, the failure of a given path can be corrected by the use of another path associated with a given device. The data structures generated by the low levels of the storage operating system are exposed for use by upper level services for routing a storage device identification purposes.
