Abstract: A synthetic full backup of a source volume is retrieved, the synthetic full having been created from merging a backup chain including an incremental backup into a full backup. The full backup corresponds to a state of the source volume at a first time. The synthetic full corresponds to a state of the source volume at a second time, after the first time. A bitmap embedded into a snapshot of the source volume taken at the second time is retrieved. The bitmap identifies data from the source volume copied to secondary storage for the incremental backup. The backup chain is regenerated by copying from the snapshot the data identified by the bitmap to a regenerated incremental backup.

Abstract: Embodiments of a targeted deduplication process that splits protected data into variable size segments, generates a fingerprint for each segment, and then combines fingerprints into groups to form group fingerprints. An embodiment auto-generates and persists the group fingerprints for the backups which are already on the storage server, thus enabling the backup client to fetch these fingerprints using an identifier and enforce synthesis for the new backup or replication copy against any previously written backup. For this embodiment, group fingerprints are generated on the storage server itself, rather than being generated on and pushed from the backup client for mere storage on the storage server, so that, as files are ingested, the storage server also auto-generates group fingerprints on its own.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for expanding cloud volume, and a device and a readable medium are provided. The method includes: determining whether there is an request of a host in a cloud volume and confirming a snapshot started during cloud backup (S1); in response to there being no IO request, expanding a snapshot volume of the snapshot started during the cloud backup and the cloud volume (S2); expanding a bitmap of the snapshot started during the cloud backup, and setting a bitmap obtained by expanding as a first preset value (S3); after completion of a cloud backup task, expanding a snapshot volume of an another snapshot that is not started in the cloud backup (S4); and expanding a bitmap of the another snapshot that is not started in the the present cloud backup, and setting a bitmap obtained by expanding as a second preset value (S5).

Abstract: A method for managing a block-based backup (BBB) includes: obtaining file system metadata, in which the file system metadata is for a file system on a production host; obtaining application metadata from the production host on which an application is executing; identifying assets in the file system metadata based on the application metadata to generate identified assets; generating a virtual file system for the application using the identified assets, in which the virtual file system does not include assets that are not part of the identified assets; receiving a request from the application to access a selected asset, in which the selected asset is one of the identified assets; and providing, using the file system metadata, access to the application for the selected asset in the BBB.

Abstract: Techniques described herein relate to a method for performing pre-backup tasks. The method includes obtaining, by a proxy host, a snapshot request associated with an incremental backup of a file system stored in a network attached storage (NAS) from a backup manager; in response to obtaining the snapshot request: instantiating a NAS container to obtain a snapshot of the file system; providing the snapshot to the NAS container; after providing the snapshot to the NAS container: retrieving a previously generated slice list associated with the file system; identifying, using the slice list, changed data include in the file system; generating change rates associated with each slice; grouping the slices based on the change rates and group criteria to generate slice groups; generating an updated slice list specifying the slices and the slice groups; and providing the updated slice list to the backup manager.

Abstract: There is provided a computer implemented method, a system for performing the method, and a computer program for recreating a program state. In one aspect, the invention comprises associating a step counter with respective points in the progress of a program's execution and generating a snapshot by storing the set of program values associated with a first step counter value. The state of the program is subsequently recreated by recreating the program state from the snapshot preceding the point in the progress of the program execution associated with a query step counter value and executing the program from the recreated state of the program to the point in the progress of the program execution associated with the second index reference value, including using previously stored non-deterministic values.
