    Abstract: Various embodiments can measure a distance of an object. For achieving this, a first light source and a second light source can be configured to emit first light and a second light toward the object to illuminate the object. The emission of the first light and second light can be configured such that the two lights converge at a first point and diverge at a second point. An optical sensor can be used to capture a first image of the object illuminated by the first light, and capture a second image of the object illuminated by the second light. An image difference between the first image and the second image of the object can be determined. The distance of the object with respect to the first point can then be determined based on the image difference and a distance difference between the first point and the second point.

    Abstract: Devices, systems, and techniques are provided for integrating a touch screen with a fingerprint detection module as an assembly for a mobile device. The integrated touch screen/fingerprint sensor assembly includes at least two glass layers bonded together to provide overall mechanical strength for the touch screen display. The upper glass layer is a toughened/hardened cover glass that does not have an opening for fitting the fingerprint detection module through this glass layer. The lower glass layer is a support glass layer underneath the hardened cover glass to provide additional mechanical strength and to include an opening at a location close to an end of the support glass layer. The integrated touch screen/fingerprint sensor assembly also includes a fingerprint detection module positioned within the opening of the support glass layer and directly underneath the hardened cover glass.

    Abstract: An optical sensor can include a transmitter for transmitting a light and one or more optical receivers or sensors to receive light reflected from other vehicles and objects. The apparatus can include a first optical angle sensor to receive from an object first reflected light at a first angle between the object and the first angle sensor. The apparatus can further include a second optical angle sensor to receive second reflected light from the object at a second angle between the object and the second angle sensor. The first reflected light and the second reflected light can be the transmitted light reflected from the object. Circuitry can receive the first and second angles from the first and second optical angle sensors and can process the measured first and second angles to determine the position of the object.

    Abstract: In one aspect, a fingerprint sensor device includes a substrate and a sensor chip disposed over the substrate. The sensor chip includes an array of sensor pixels configured to generate fingerprint data by sensing ridges and valleys of a surface of a finger contacting the fingerprint sensor device. Each sensor pixel includes a single sensor electrode an amplifier having an inverting terminal electrically connected to the sensor electrode and a non-inverting terminal electrically connected to a drive signal. The drive signal generates electric fields between the sensor electrode and at least one of the ridges and valleys of the surface of the finger contacting the fingerprint sensor device to generate a variable capacitor having a variable capacitance based at least partly on a distance between the sensor electrode and the at least one of the ridges and valleys of the finger.

    Abstract: Touch sensing based on optical sensing as disclosed herein can be implemented by using an optical stylus or pointer that emits probe light for optical sensing, and spatially distributed optical sensors at different spatial locations for sensing. The measurements from the different optical sensors can be processed to determine the position of the light from the optical stylus at the screen. Optical sensing of a position on a two-dimensional surface and a position in a three-dimensional space can be achieved for various optical touch sensing applications. In one implementation, an apparatus can include a screen or display, an optical stylus or optical pointer, and two or more optical angle sensors which determine, respectively, a first angle between the first optical angle sensor and a position of light at the screen and a second angle between the second optical angle sensor and the position of light at the screen.
