    Abstract: An automatic transmission includes a first planetary gear set; a second planetary gear set; a third planetary gear set; an input shaft; an output shaft; and five friction elements. A first ring gear is constantly locked. A third carrier is connected with a second ring gear to define a rotating member. The input shaft is constantly connected with a second carrier, and the output shaft is constantly connected with the rotating member. The five friction elements are adapted to selectively connect among the carriers, ring gears and sun gears. Each of at least seven forward speed-ratios and one reverse speed-ratio is achieved by an engaged state of two friction elements selected from the five friction elements.

    Abstract: Provided is an automatic transmission capable of reducing friction loss. A first element (Sa) is coupled with an input shaft (2), a second element Ca is coupled with a first driving gear (G1a). A first driven gear (G1b) is pivotally supported on an output shaft (3), a seventh element (Rc) is coupled with a second driving gear (G2a), and a second driven gear (G2b) is fixed to the output shaft (3). A third element (Ra) and a fifth element (Cb) are coupled to form a first coupling body, a sixth element (Rb) and a ninth element (Sc) are coupled to form a second coupling body. The automatic transmission includes a first engagement mechanism (C1) coupling the input shaft (2) and the eight element (Cc) releasably, a second engagement (C2) fixing the first driven gear (G1b) to the output shaft (3) releasably, a third engagement mechanism (C3) coupling the second element (Ca) with the second coupling body releasably, and a fourth to a sixth engagement mechanisms (B1 to B3) fixing respectively the first coupling body, a fourth element (Sb) and the eighth element (Cc) to a transmission case (1) releasably.

    Abstract: An automatic transmission including a double pinion planetary gear unit PG1, two single pinion planetary gear units PG2 and PG3 and six frictional elements (viz., six clutches) C1 to C6 is so constructed as to establish nine forward speeds and one reverse speed by simultaneously putting selected three of the six frictional elements C1 to C6 into their engaged condition. The frictional elements C1 to C6 are of a type including mutually rotatable friction plates that cause production of an oil dragging resistance when the frictional element is under idling condition. With the simultaneously engaged condition of the three frictional elements, each speed is established with a reduced friction loss of the automatic transmission.
