Abstract: A multimode optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging system comprises a light source arranged to emit coherent light in a path to scan a sample. An optical parameter unit is arranged in the path and is operable in at least one selected mode from among a plurality of available operating modes, including at least a first mode, a second mode and a third mode. A detector is arranged to detect reflected light, the reflected light being light reflected in the path as a result of the coherence light scanning the sample. A controller is arranged to control at least one of the light source or the optical parameter unit. The first, second and third modes include a retina mode, anterior segment mode, and biometry mode, respectively. Also provided are a method for operating a multimode OCT imaging system, and a computer-readable storage medium storing a program for performing the method.

Abstract: An ophthalmic optical coherence tomography instrument, method, and computer-readable medium. The instrument includes a scanner defining an apparent point source for scanning sample light across a subject position and an objective having a posterior imaging configuration to project the apparent point source onto a pivot point between the objective and the subject position. The objective is settable between the posterior imaging configuration for scanning the sample light across a retina of an eye at the subject position and an anterior imaging configuration for scanning the sample light across a pivot plane. An axial region from which an interferogram is detectable extends across the pivot plane while the objective is in the anterior imaging configuration. A pupil alignment method uses the anterior imaging modality to obtain a structure position of a structure of an eye's anterior segment and then an offset between the structure position and a reference position.

Abstract: An ophthalmic scanning system includes a first imaging modality, a second imaging modality different from the first imaging modality, and a control system that maps the first imaging modality to the second imaging modality by compensating for at least one of an optical-mechanical and an electro-mechanical projection difference between the first and second imaging modalities. The control system provides a scan location for the second imaging modality based on a scan location of the first imaging modality.

Abstract: An optical coherence tomography instrument suitable for imaging a retina is disclosed. In the instrument, an adjustable optical frequency shifter, which can be or include an acousto-optic modulator or electro-optic modulator, is arranged either (i) between a coupler and a reference optical system, (ii) in a reference optical system, (iii) between the coupler and a front-end optical system, or (iv) in a front-end optical system. The optical frequency of reference light or signal light may adjustably be increased or decreased. In operation, a subject is arranged such that its retina is in the focal depth of the front-end optical system. The increase or decrease in the optical frequency of the reference light or the sample light can be adjusted. Thereby, an interferogram representing a depth structure at the retina obtained between returning signal light and returning reference light may be brought to lie within a detection bandwidth of the instrument.

Abstract: A method of determining a geometrical measurement of a retina of an eye, comprising obtaining a two dimensional representation of at least a portion of the retina of the eye (34), deriving a geometrical remapping which converts the two dimensional representation of the retinal portion to a three dimensional representation of the retinal portion (36), using one or more coordinates of the two dimensional representation of the retinal portion to define the geometrical measurement to be taken of the retina on the two dimensional representation (38), using the geometrical remapping to convert the or each coordinate of the two dimensional representation of the retinal portion to an equivalent coordinate of the three dimensional representation of the retinal portion (40), and using the or each equivalent coordinate of the three dimensional representation of the retinal portion to determine the geometrical measurement of the retina of the eye (42).

Abstract: An apparatus for providing temperature-dependent movement of an optical element, the apparatus comprising: a moveable mount for the optical element; a mount moving component attached to the moveable mount; and a guide attached to the mount moving component and configured to guide a movement of the moveable mount. The apparatus is configured such that a difference in thermal contraction or thermal expansion between the mount moving component and the guide in response to a change in temperature of the apparatus causes the mount moving component to move the moveable mount relative to the guide.

Abstract: An ophthalmic device comprising a light source to emit fixation target light, and a reflecting face to reflect scanning light emitted by an emission section and scan the scanning light in a specific direction by changing orientation, the emission section being a scanning light source different to the light source. A concave mirror face is disposed so scanning light reflected by the reflecting face is incident on a subject's eye ocular fundus when the eye is at the concave mirror's focal point, and is arranged such that, when the eye is at the concave mirror's focal point, and when the light source emits fixation target light, that light and scanning light are simultaneously incident on the ocular fundus via different optical paths propagating via the concave mirror face and focal point, the target fixation light following a predetermined optical path for fixing the subject's eye gaze.

Abstract: A method of method of processing optical coherence tomography, OCT, image data representing an OCT image of a retina of an eye, to generate mapping data which maps out a predetermined band of a plurality of distinct bands which extend across the OCT image and correspond to respective anatomical layers of the retina. The method comprises: receiving the OCT image data; processing A-scan data of the received OCT image data to generate data indicative of sequences of A-scan elements corresponding to the predetermined band of the plurality of distinct bands and having respective A-scan element values that vary in accordance with a predetermined pattern; and generating the mapping data by applying a line-finding algorithm to determine a line passing through the sequences of A-scan elements indicated by the generated data.

Abstract: An apparatus for rendering optical coherence tomography, OCT, retinal image data, acquired by an OCT scanner scanning a retina of an eye over a range of scan locations, wherein each scan location is associated with a respective coordinate in a first coordinate system, and each pixel of the rendered OCT retinal image data is associated with a respective coordinate in a second coordinate system different from the first coordinate system. The apparatus comprises a communication module arranged to receive the OCT retinal image data, and a coordinate-determining module arranged to determine values of coordinates in the second coordinate system of pixels in the received OCT retinal image using a transformation from coordinates in the first to second coordinate system. The apparatus further comprises an interpolation module arranged to interpolate between values of pixels at the determined values to calculate values of the pixels of the rendered OCT retinal image data.
