Abstract:
A pelleting die is provided, preferably in cylindrical form. The die includes a cylindrical body having inner and outer cylindrical surfaces and holes through the surfaces in which particulate material is extruded to form pellets. The die is formed of an H-group steel alloy, preferably H13 alloy, with the surfaces being nitrided to provide increased surface hardness, resistance to wear, improved fatigue life and improved corrosion resistance.

The mash feed conditioning apparatus includes a housing having an interior and an inlet and outlet, a shaft mounted within the interior of the housing having an internal cavity, and mechanisms for rotating the shaft to convey feed within the interior and for introducing steam into the interior via the cavity of the shaft. The shaft and the housing preferably include pressure containment mechanisms for maintaining superatmospheric pressures within the cavity and the interior respectively.
Abstract:
A weather resistant, rodenticidal bait comprises sweet corn flour, an effective amount of a rodenticide, and water. Additional preferred ingredients include a glutinous flour, flavoring and salt. Preferred rodenticides include diphacinone, brodifacoum, warfarin, bromadialone, bromethalin and their functional equivalents. A preferred method of manufacturing the weather resistant rodenticidal bait of the present invention utilizes cold extrusion techniques. The most preferred method of manufacturing includes the steps of mixing a sweet corn flour, an effective amount of a rodenticide, and water to produce a rodenticidal mixture. In the preferred method, a glutinous flour is also mixed with the sweet corn flour, with wheat flour the most preferred glutinous flour. The rodenticidal mixture is forced through an extrusion chamber and out a nozzle opening, to produce extruded chunks. The extruded chunks are preferably dried to obtain weather resistant, sweet corn-based rodenticidal bait having a sweet corn content of at least 65% by weight of the weather resistant bait and a moisture content of not more than 10% by weight of the weather resistant bait.
Abstract:
A method for the production of spherical granulated materials from powdered solids and the granulated materials produced by it are disclosed. The method is characterized in that the powdered solids are moistened, possibly together with the usual binders, flow agents and plasticizers for the compression of solids, by the addition of a corresponding quantity of liquid and mixing smoothly in a mixer; they are then compressed with a ring collar mill into cylindrical agglomerate and then rounded in a rounding unit with wrinkle washer. The granulated solids thus produced have a very narrow particle size distribution and are distinguished by good flowability and good dispersability, depending on process controls.
Abstract:
A radial die densifier is disclosed having a means for regulating the rate of material flow. Material passes through a feed cylinder in which is disposed a distributor cone. The feed cylinder may be moved toward and away from the cone so as to vary the width of a flow passage way formed between the end of the feed cylinder and the distributor cone. Also disclosed is a method for producing fuel pellets, logs, or the like, by densifying paper coated with a moisture resistant material in which the coating acts as a binder and a combustibility enhancing agent.
Abstract:
An apparatus provides separate coarse rate and fine rate adjustability of spacing between extrusion rolls and a surrounding extrusion die in a pellet mill, including a roller tire, for each extrusion roll, mounted on bearings which are supported on a hollow shaft having a cylindrical eccentric bore; a solid axle shaft disposed within each hollow shaft and having eccentric bearing-journaled extensions and an axial length greater than that of the hollow shaft; a rigidly mounted front roller support plate having a bore for supporting said bearing-journaled eccentric extension at a front end of said solid axle shaft for each said roll, the bore being aligned with a matching bore for supporting a bearing-journaled eccentric extension at a rear end of each solid axle shaft for each said roll. Attached to each hollow shaft is a provision for rotating the hollow shaft to adjust a spacing distance between the roller tire and the extrusion die and for holding the shaft in a desired rotated position. The eccentric extensions of the solid roller shaft have a device, which can be located internally or externally to the mill, for rotating the solid shaft to adjust the spacing distance at a different rate than that produced by rotation of the hollow shaft.
Abstract:
An improved pelletizing press for producing pressed feed products and the like, of the type comprising a radially perforated die with at least two pressing rollers oppositely mounted therein and driven by frictional engagement with the rotary die. The improvement provided by the invention consists of a large principal pressing roller providing increased pellet production with equal specific energy comsumption of the pelletizing press and at least one oppositely mounted auxiliary pressing roller which has a considerably smaller diameter than said principal pressing roller, and is mounted in opposed relation thereto so as to function as a compensating roller while providing a minor pressing action.
Abstract:
A pelletising machine of the kind comprising an annular die having radial bores therethrough, and adapted to be rotated about its central axis, whereby material introduced into the centre of the die is extruded through the bores by the action of freely rotatable pelletising rollers which are closely spaced from the inner peripheral surface of the annular die, and having a door which can be hinged between an open position enclosing the die, there being a cut-off knife mounted on the end of a shaft extending through the wall of said door, characterised in that the shaft supporting the cut-off knife passes through a guide sleeve carried in a housing secured to the wall of the door, there being means to permit fine adjustment of the position of said shaft axially within said guide sleeve and means permitting said guide sleeve together with said shaft to be moved as a unit rapidly outwardly relative to said housing and returned inwardly to their initial position.
Abstract:
A pelletizing apparatus has a mixing chamber in which rotates a mixing shaft having a plurality of extrusion rollers mounted thereon for rotation therewith and an annular stationary die operative associated with said rollers and which provides substantially the sole support through said rollers for the mixing shaft so that the need for supporting bearings for a mixing shaft is eliminated.
Abstract:
A press for the preparation of granular cattle feed or similar material and of the kind comprising an annular radially perforated die and a drum mounted co-axially with the die and provided with a central feeding port, the die and drum being mounted for rotation around a stationary support fitted with a number of pressure rollers, each freely rotatable on a stationary shaft and in contact with the interior of the die, characterised in that the angle of the axis of rotation of the die and the drum relative to a horizontal plane is approximately between 20* and 40*.
