Abstract:
An elongated steel element adapted for the reinforcement of rubber products is covered with a ternary alloy or quaternary alloy coating of copper-M-zinc. M is one or two metals selected out of the group consisting of cobalt, nickel, tin, indium, manganese, iron, bismuth and molybdenum. The copper content inside the coating ranges from 58 weight percent to 75 weight percent. The content of the one or two metals inside said coating ranges from 0.5 weight percent to 10 weight percent. The remainder is zinc and unavoidable impurities. The one or two metals are present throughout the coating. Phosphorus is present on and/or in the coating in an amount of more than 1 and less than 4 milligram per square meter of the coating. The coating further comprises one or, ore compounds which complex with the copper in the coating to form an insoluble film on its surface. Good results are obtained for steam ageing and cured humidity adhesion. Furthermore, a corresponding method for manufacturing such an elongated steel element is disclosed.

The fibers and/or wires are coated with a liquefied matrix material before and/or at the twisting point and are embedded in the matrix material during twisting. The fibers and/or wires are immersed in the matrix material before and/or at the twisting point and the formed strand or the formed cable is cooled after the twisting in order for the matrix material to solidify, preferably by air or in a cooling liquid, for example water.

The present invention provides an ultrahigh molecular weight polyolefin fiber coated with a coating composition, wherein the coating composition contains a UV stabilizer, characterized in that the amount of UV stabilizer is between 2 wt % and 80 wt. % compared to the total weight of the coating composition based on solids. The UV absorber can be selected from the group consisting of hydroxybenzophenones, hydroxyphenylbenzotriazoles, oxalanilides, phenyl esters, benzooxazinones, cyanoacrylates, formamidine, benzylidene malonates and hydroxyphenyl triazines and combinations thereof. Such fibers are particularly useful in ropes and fishing nets.

In order to provide a double rustproof PC strand with superior durability and semi-permanent rustproof performance, a core wire and surrounding wires are formed of wires subjected to a wire drawing treatment and a plating treatment and formed with a plated layer, and a rustproof treatment is applied by forming a synthetic resin coat on an outer peripheral surface thereof. In order to uniformize and regulate the twisting pitch, the core wire and the surrounding wires are adjusted under the conditions of (A) Diameter of CORE: 4.42±0.05 mm, Diameter of Surrounding wire: 4.25±0.05 mm, (B) Diameter of CORE: 5.22±0.05 mm, Diameter of Surrounding wire: 5.06±0.05 mm, or (C) Diameter of CORE: 5.40±0.05 mm, Diameter of Surrounding wire: 5.25±0.05 mm, and then twisted, and the tensile strength is 1850 N/mm2 or higher.

A reinforcement means for moulded and extruded articles such as tires has a metal structure with a layer of silica gel bonded thereto. The silica gel bonds the reinforcement means to the rubber compound during the moulding/vulcanisation of the rubber compound without the need for a slow curing stage. The silica gel may be applied to the metal structure by a sol-gel process with the gel formed by drying the sol at a temperature up to 150° C. The reinforcement means is preferably a cable formed from steel wires coated with the silica gel. To further improve bonding of the silica gel to the rubber compound, an organosilane bonding agent may be included in the rubber compound or the reinforcing means provided with a second layer comprising an organosilane as a bonding agent. The reinforcement means are particularly useful for strengthening and providing geometric stability to tires.
