    Abstract: Systems and methods spectrally and radiometrically calibrate an optical spectrum detected with a color-image sensor of an optical spectrometer. When the color-image sensor includes a Bayer filter, the red-peaked, green-peaked, and blue-peaked spectral responses of the color filters forming the Bayer filter may be used to identify unique spectral signatures in the red, green, and blue color channels. These spectral signatures may be used to associate calibration wavelengths to the pixel locations of the color-image sensor where the spectral signatures are observed. A fitted model may then be used to associate a wavelength to each pixel location of the color-image sensor. These systems and methods account for translational shifts of the optical spectrum on the color-image sensor induced by optical image stabilization, and thus may aid optical spectrometry utilizing a digital camera in a smartphone or tablet computer.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for determining a customized cosmetic formulation. In one method, a user is guided to capture an image of a skin region with known lighting and color characteristics, and the image is processed to provide calibrated skin color information. A customized cosmetic formulation is automatically determined for the user based on the calibrated skin color information. In another method, a user is interactively guided through capture of one or more skin region images using a device having an image sensor. The skin region images are processed to provide calibrated skin color information, which is compared to a ground truth data set to identify a set of closest known values in the ground truth data set. A customized cosmetic formulation is automatically determined for the user based on the comparison.

    Abstract: A measuring device is a measuring device that performs colorimetry of an evaluation patch formed on a medium and a paper white patch that is a portion exposed by the medium. The measuring device has a light source portion that irradiates the medium with an illumination light, a measurement portion that acquires an amount of light from the medium as a measurement value, a memory that holds a paper white standard value that is a reference measurement value of the paper white patch, and a colorimetry unit that corrects a measurement value of the evaluation patch based on the measurement value of the paper white patch and the paper white standard value. Even in a case where a measurement position is changed, a reflectance of the evaluation patch is accurately calculated and a chromaticity of the evaluation patch can be accurately acquired.

    Abstract: Sensor calibration methods and systems can for providing accurate color values are disclosed. In one example, a method includes obtaining color measurements that indicate an amount of ambient light, as well as clustering the color measurements, and storing cluster parameters for the clustered color measurements. The method can further include automatic calculation of, for each cluster, generic transformation parameters for conversion of a color measurement to a calibrated color value. In another example, a method can include exposing a light sensor to a calibration ambient lighting, calculating sensor correction parameters for the light sensor, and storing the calculated parameters. As an additional example, an electronic device is adapted to determine calibrated color values with machine readable media storing cluster parameters, sensor correction parameters, and generic transform parameters used by the electronic device to calculate calibrated color values for ambient light sensor measurements.
