Potato protein, in combination with other vegetable proteins, replaces a portion of the total protein in a nutrition drink or shake or other nutritional composition intended for oral consumption. By suitable selection of the types and amounts of these proteins the overall cost of manufacturing the nutritional composition can be reduced without adversely affecting its other desirable properties such as nutritional value, stability, solubility, clarity, taste, and mouthfeel.
Abstract:
Spray dried nutritional powders include soluble calcium, protein, and at least one of a soluble citrate, a soluble phosphate, and combinations thereof as at least one chelating agent. At least a portion of the soluble calcium is calcium HMB. At least a portion of the protein is soluble protein. The spray dried nutritional powders have a weight ratio of soluble calcium binding capacity to total soluble calcium of from about 2.3:1 to about 12:1. The calcium HMB, the at least one chelating agent, and the protein are spray dried together.
Abstract:
The instant disclosure provides methods of extracting stain-independent features from digital images of histologically stained cells. Stain-independent features provide consistent assessment of cell morphology in the presence of staining variation and across different stains or stain formulations. Improved consistency in cell morphology assessments finds use in automated cell classification and other image processing applications. Also included are systems for practicing the described methods. The instant disclosure also provides computer readable media storing instructions that, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device and/or components of a described system to perform steps of a method involving of extraction of stain-independent features from digital images.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are methods for enhancing the efficacy of epigallocatechin gallate (“EGCg”) in mitigating skeletal muscle loss in a subject. Providing EGCg to a subject in a nutritional composition reduces muscle protein degradation, thereby mitigating skeletal muscle loss in the subject. The combination of EGCg with zinc in a nutritional composition enhances the mitigating effect that EGCg has on muscle loss. Specifically, when used in combination, a nutritional composition containing both EGCg and zinc requires less EGCg to obtain the same mitigating effect that occurs in the same nutritional composition containing EGCg but no zinc.

In accordance with the present invention there is provided apparatuses and methods for using a medical instrument including a sizing and positioning adapter. The apparatus comprises an adapter for a medical instrument, the adapt having a body having a shim portion and an instrument holding portion adjacent the shim portion, wherein the shim portion provides an enlarged peripheral surface adjacent the medical instrument such that when the medical instrument is held in the instrument holding portion and the medical instrument and body are inserted through an opening in a patient tissue, at least a portion of the enlarged peripheral surface is in contact with at least a portion of the periphery of the opening in the patient tissue.

The present disclosure provides detection methods employing HCV core lipid binding domain and DNA binding domain monoclonal antibodies or antibody fragments. In certain embodiments, the lipid binding domain monoclonal antibody or antibody fragment recognizes an epitope in amino acids 141 to 161 of HCV core protein and the DNA binding domain antibody or antibody fragment recognizes an epitope in amino acids 95-123 (e.g., in amino acids 99-117) of HCV core protein.
Abstract:
An in vitro method that allows detection of hepatitis C by detecting hepatitis C virus (HCV) core protein and antibodies to HCV core protein (anti-core antibodies) in a single assay is provided. Cross-reactivity is eliminated in the method preferably by utilizing short peptides, each of which has an amino acid sequence that corresponds to an immunodominant region of the native core protein but which does not wholly encompass the epitope bound by the antibodies utilized in the method. The method can be used to detect the presence of HCV in a subject, and/or to determine the suitability of donor blood or blood products for transfusion purposes. Also provided are diagnostic kits for carrying out the method and a process for selecting suitable capture peptides and monoclonal antibodies for use in the combination method.
