Abstract: A fuel injection apparatus includes a valve element provided with a flow passage allowing a fuel to flow therethrough, a valve seat which the valve element will contact with or separate from, and a casing accommodating therein the valve element and the valve seat. During valve opening in which the valve element is separated from the valve seat, the fuel flowing through the flow passage is discharged through a gap between the valve element and the valve seat. A direction in which the valve seat is placed relative to the valve element is the same as a direction of the fuel flowing in the flow passage. The fuel injection apparatus further includes a discharge-side flow passage in which the fuel to be discharged during valve opening is allowed flow. The discharge-side flow passage is formed outside an outer peripheral portion of the valve seat.

Abstract: A SOFC system having a fuel reformer for reforming a gaseous hydrocarbon stream and steam into a hydrogen rich gas, a solid oxide fuel cell stack including an anode and a cathode for electrochemically reacting the hydrogen rich gas and a cathode air stream to produce electricity, an anode exhaust stream and a cathode depleted air stream. The anode exhaust stream and the cathode depleted air stream are kept separate, a burner for combusting a mixture of the anode exhaust stream and a fresh air stream to complete combustion and produce heat for the reformer control unit and a blower are also provided. The control unit controlling the blower for controlling the mass flow rate of the fresh air stream to provide heat to the reformer to reform the gaseous hydrocarbon stream and to produce a burner exhaust stream.

Abstract: A fuel cell unit with a plurality of fuel cells defining a longitudinal axis and a main flow direction coaxial to the longitudinal axis. Fuel cell inlets and fuel cell outlets are arranged at opposite ends of the fuel cell unit and in line with the main flow direction. Also, a component comprising first fluid conduits arranged parallel to the main flow direction, the first fluid conduits comprising first fluid inlets and first fluid outlets arranged at opposite ends of the component and in line with the main flow direction. The component is arranged adjacent the fuel cell unit such that at least one of the first fluid inlets and the first fluid outlets of the component are arranged adjacent at least one of the fuel cell outlets and the fuel cell inlets such that a fluid flow may flow substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the apparatus in the first fluid conduits of the component and in the fuel cell unit and when passing from the component to the fuel cell unit or vice versa.

Abstract: There is provided a control method of a flow regulating valve of an oxidizing gas in a fuel cell. In a load disconnected state that the fuel cell is electrically disconnected from a load, the control method gradually opens the flow regulating valve that is configured to supply the oxidizing gas to a cathode of the fuel cell by a predetermined valve opening each time from a full-close position or gradually closes the flow regulating valve by a predetermined valve opening each time from a full-open position, so as to gradually change a supply amount of the oxidizing gas introduced to the cathode and cause hydrogen transmitted from an anode to the cathode in the fuel cell to be oxidized. The control method measures an open circuit voltage of the fuel cell accompanied with oxidation of the hydrogen and stores at least one valve-opening position among valve-opening positions of the flow regulating valve at a predetermined number of timings including a timing when the measured voltage shifts to an increase or shifts to a decrease, as a regulation reference valve-opening timing.

Abstract: A compressor, an intercooler, and a fuel cell stack are housed in a housing compartment. The compressor and the intercooler are connected with each other by upstream side piping, and the intercooler and the fuel cell stack are connected with each other by downstream side piping. The upstream side piping is formed from upstream side first and second pipe parts, and the downstream side piping is formed from downstream side first and second pipe parts. Movement of the compressor and fuel cell stack relative to the intercooler at the time of a heavy collision of the vehicle causes disconnection of the upstream side first and second pipe parts and disconnection of the downstream side first and second pipe parts, to thereby cause communication of the upstream side piping and the downstream side piping with an internal space of the housing compartment.

Abstract: A fuel cell system is provided. The system includes a fuel cell stack, a plurality of valves operated to be selectively opened or closed to supply fuel to the fuel cell stack and remove impurities, and a pressure sensor that detects a state of pressure of fuel supplied to the fuel cell stack. A fuel cell controller then determines whether the pressure sensor or the plurality of valves are faulty by comparing increase or decrease time of the pressure detected by the pressure sensor with a reference range of time delay, as the plurality of valves are operated to be opened or closed.
