Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for measuring blood oxygen at a finger, comprising the following steps: 10) measuring blood oxygen content and finger temperature of the human body; 20) giving corresponding prompts according to the blood oxygen content and the finger temperature measured in the step 10). The present invention further provides a finger-clipped oximeter, comprising a control unit, a blood oxygen measurement unit, a finger temperature measurement unit, an output unit and a power management unit. The method for measuring blood oxygen at a finger and the finger-clipped oximeter provided by the present invention can measure the finger temperature of the human body, consider the measured finger temperature as a reference of the measured blood oxygen content of the human body and present it to the user together with the measured blood oxygen content, so as to assist the user in making a more accurate estimation on the blood oxygen content and the health condition of the person under test.
Abstract:
Object comparison is disclosed, including: adapting N universal mixture model components to a first object to generate N corresponding first object mixture model components, where N is an integer greater than or equal to two; and generating a similarity measure based on component-by-component comparison of the N first object mixture model components with corresponding N second object mixture model components obtained by adaptation of the N universal mixture model components to a second object.
Abstract:
An acid or base is generated in an aqueous solution by the steps of: (a) providing a source of first ions adjacent an aqueous liquid in a first acid or base generation zone, separated by a first barrier (e.g., anion exchange membrane) substantially preventing liquid flow and transporting ions only of the same charge as said first ions, (b) providing a source of second ions of opposite charge adjacent an aqueous liquid in a second acid or base generation zone, separated by a second barrier transporting ions only of the same charge as the second ions, and (c) transporting ions across the first barrier by applying an electrical potential through said first and second zones to generate an acid-containing aqueous solution in one of said first or second zones and a base-containing aqueous solution in the other one which may be combined to form a salt. Also, electrolytic apparatus for performing the above method.
Abstract:
A process for the pre-treatment of Mo/ZSM-5 and Mo/MCM-22 catalysts is provided, which process comprises heating the catalyst at 500° C. in the presence of propane. The treated catalyst, when used in the non-oxidative dehydrogenation of methane demonstrates improved benzene yield and catalyst stability as compared to catalysts pre-treated with He, methane or H2.
Abstract:
The present invention provides novel compositions containing a calbindin-D28k therapeutic element, which is involved in the regulation of apoptosis, and may be administered for the prevention of an abnormal apoptosis response in cells. In particular the compositions and methods of the present invention may be used for the prevention or induction of apoptosis in such cells types as osteoblasts and osteocytes. Specifically, the compositions and methods of the present invention are useful for the prevention of diseases associated with glucocorticoid induced cell death. Specifically, the compositions and methods of the present invention may be useful in the prevention of glucocorticoid induced cell death in osteoblasts and the treatment of such conditions as glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis.
Abstract:
A continuous electrochemical pump comprising a water generator compartment, an anode compartment on one side of said generator compartment, a cation exchange barrier, separating the generator compartment from the anode compartment, a first electrode in electrical communication with the anode compartment, a cathode compartment adjacent the generator chamber, an anion exchange barrier, separating the generation compartment from the cathode compartment, and a second electrode in electrical communication with the cathode compartment. Use of the pump as a sample concentrator. A feedback loop for the pump. A reservoir, with or without an intermediate piston, on the output side of the pump.
Abstract:
Provided herein are methods of treating a cancer in a subject comprising administering a FOXP3 protein, a nucleic acid encoding a FOXP3 protein, or an inducing compound which induces FOXP3 protein expression. Methods of altering a phenotype of a cancer cell or tumor cell, methods of inhibiting growth of such cells, and methods of inducing apoptosis of these cells are also provided herein. These methods comprise contacting the cell with a FOXP3 protein, a nucleic acid encoding a FOXP3 protein, or an inducing compound which induces FOXP3 protein expression. Further provided herein are diagnostic methods, comprising comparing the expression or structure of a FOXP3 protein or FOXP3 gene in a test sample to that of a normal or prior sample. A method of screening a test compound for anti-cancer activity comprising administering to cells the test compound and measuring FOXP3 protein or FOXP3 gene expression is moreover provided herein.
