Abstract: Barcode readers and methods for directing fields-of-view of imaging sensors of barcode readers are disclosed herein. An example barcode reader includes a housing, an imaging sensor positioned within the housing, and a transflective mirror positioned within the housing and in a path of a field-of-view of the imaging sensor. The transflective mirror reflects at least a first portion of the field-of-view of the imaging sensor in a first direction with the transflective mirror in a reflective state and allows the field-of-view of the imaging sensor to pass through and continue in a second direction, different than the first direction, with the transflective mirror in a transmissive state.

Abstract: A bioptic reader assembly includes a scale assembly, bioptic barcode reader, and video upgrade module. The scale assembly includes a support frame and a platter and has a width that is less than or equal to 11½ inches. The bioptic barcode reader is mounted to the support frame and includes a lower housing portion positioned below the platter, an upper housing portion extending above the lower housing portion and the platter, and a camera. The video upgrade module is operatively connected to the bioptic barcode reader, is in communication with the camera, and is configured to process and interpret images received from the camera. The video upgrade module is positioned within the width of the scale assembly and within a height defined from a top surface of the platter to a bottom of the lower housing portion, which is preferably less than or equal to 4 inches.

Abstract: Methods and systems include using three-dimensional imaging apparatuses to capture three-dimensional images and analyze resulting three-dimensional image data to enhance captured two-dimensional images for scanning related processes such as object identification, symbology detection, object recognition model training, and identifying improper scan attempts or other actions performed by an operator. Imaging systems such as bi-optic readers, handheld scanners, and machine vision systems are described using three-dimensional imaging apparatuses and described capturing three-dimensional images and using with captured two-dimensional images.

Abstract: A weigh platter assembly includes a weigh platter having a proximal edge and a lateral edge and an off-platter detection assembly. The off-platter detection assembly has an assembly field-of-view (field-of-view) extending from the proximal edge and constrained to have an assembly central field-of-view axis substantially parallel to the lateral edge and at least one lateral boundary substantially adjacent to the lateral edge. A light emission assembly has a light source and emits a light away from the proximal edge. A light detection assembly has a light sensor and detects at least a portion of the light reflected towards the proximal edge. A controller allows the measured weight to be recorded in response to a first value from the light detection assembly and prevents the measured weight from being recorded and/or provides an alert in response to a second value from the light detection assembly.

Abstract: Methods and systems for using barcodes to determine item dimensions are disclosed herein. An example method includes a scanner identifying a barcode in an image of an object, and determining a datum associated with the barcode. A physical feature of the object located outside of the barcode is identified. A comparison of the datum associated with the barcode to the physical feature is made; and, in response, at least one dimension of the object is determined.

Abstract: A bioptic barcode reader has a housing having a lower housing portion with an upper surface and an upper housing portion extending above the lower housing portion. A generally horizontal window is positioned at the upper surface and a generally upright window is positioned in the upper housing portion. An illumination assembly has an illumination field-of-view and an imaging assembly, including an image sensor, has an imaging field-of-view with a centerline that is directed at an angle relative to the upper surface. A mirror arrangement is configured to split the imaging field-of-view into first and second portions, redirect the first portion of the imaging field-of-view through the generally upright window, and redirect the second portion of the imaging field-of-view and the illumination field-of-view through the generally horizontal window such that the second portion is covered by the illumination field-of-view at the generally horizontal window.
