Abstract:
A tank especially suitable for use as a fuel or oxidizer tank in spacecraft is divided into two tank spaces by a membrane. A liquid is stored on one side of the membrane and a pressure gas is stored on the other side of the membrane. The pressure gas is to drive the liquid out of the tank. The membrane is made of a polymer material and is held by a spring ring in a recess on the outer wall of the tank. The spring ring has a substantially C-shaped cross-section to exert elastic spring holding forces on the membrane in the recess.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a high-pressure tank made from fiber-reinforced plastic for, in particular, gaseous media, wherein, on its inner wall, the tank is equipped completely or partially with a substantially permeation-tight foil made of metal, wherein the metal has a high elastic range and a low thermal expansion coefficient, and the foil has a thickness of ≦0.5 mm. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing tanks of this type.
Abstract:
An improved apparatus and method for monitoring the levels of propane or other consumable liquid in remotely located storage tanks and coordinating delivery of liquid to those tanks, including an improved method of using the remote monitoring data to identify out-of-ordinary conditions at remote tanks, optimally schedule purchases or deliveries, improve safety, and more efficiently operate a propane dealership. More accurate and timely information concerning the status of customer tanks serves to improve operational efficiencies and increase safety. Data received from remote sensors can be collected and organized so that it is easily understood and utilized through the implementation of a user interface accessible via the Internet that allows the information to be presented in an efficient graphical and contextual fashion. Operational efficiencies can also be improved by calculating site-specific Degree-days and K-factors for each tank and by taking historical propane usage for each tank, weather conditions, and projected fuel usage into account.
Abstract:
A storage system, including an outer casing having an evacuated inner volume; a vessel for storage located within the outer casing and having a plurality of protrusions distributed on an outer surface thereof; and a plurality of filamentary strands spanning the inner volume, wherein at least some of the plurality of protrusions are essentially tangentially contacted by a plurality of the filamentary strands to secure the vessel in six degrees of freedom relative to the outer casing.

Abstract:
A dissimilar material joint is formed by arranging a plurality of joint segments consecutively in a longitudinal direction. Each joint segment is formed by joining and integrating together a first member, an intermediate member, and a second member by explosive welding. A groove is formed in a joint end face of each joint segment, the joint end face being joined to another one of the segments, the groove spacing apart an end face of the first member and an end face of the second member from each other in a stacking direction. In the dissimilar material joint, the end faces of the respective first members of the joint segments that are adjacent to each other are joined together by welding, and the end faces of the respective second members of the joint segments that are adjacent to each other are joined together by welding.
Abstract:
An underwater carbon dioxide storage facility including a carbon dioxide deposit stored underwater as a clathrate includes a flexible barrier disposed at least partially over the carbon dioxide deposit. The carbon dioxide deposit may be stored in or at the bottom of a body of water.
Abstract:
A self-contained breathing apparatus includes an air cylinder pressurized to about 5500 psig, wherein the air cylinder is compatible with infrastructure used in conjunction with the air cylinder. The self-contained breathing apparatus also includes a first regulator valve for reducing air pressure from the air cylinder to a predetermined level. A second regulator valve is also provided for reducing the air pressure from the predetermined level to a level suitable for use by an operator, wherein air is supplied from the second regulator valve to the operator via a mask. The self-contained breathing apparatus further includes a frame for supporting the air cylinder on the back of the operator. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a pressure vessel (10) for gases, in particular helium, which is characterized in that the pressure vessel has an outer casing having pressure resistance up to an internal gas pressure of at least 10 bar, in that the outer casing of the pressure vessel has at least one highly diffusion-resistant barrier layer having a leak rate for helium at an internal gas pressure of 10 bar and room temperature of preferably less than 10−2 mbar·l/s, and in that the vessel has an accommodating volume for gas at atmospheric pressure of at least 25 liters. The outer casing of the pressure vessel can comprise at least one barrier layer made of a flexible polymer film having a high barrier function or ultra barrier function or at least one highly gas-tight flexible barrier layer made of EVOH. The vessel can be bag-like or, in particular at higher pressures, inherently rigid. High-strength plastics made of fiber granular materials, for example, can be used to produce the layer, which guarantees the high pressure resistance. Seams (12) can be provided, for example in the lateral edge areas, in order to reinforce and stabilize the pressure vessel. The pressure vessel (10) according to the invention can have a ball valve (11) as a closing element in order to remove the gas.
