Abstract: A first compute node of a plurality of compute nodes of a database cluster may receive a request for a database transaction from a client application. The client application may be located within the first compute node. A first connection may be established, without regard to whether another compute node has a lighter workload than the first compute node, between the client application and a first database of the database cluster. The first connection may be a local connection, wherein the first database is located within the first compute node. The first compute node may detect that a failure associated with the first database has occurred. The first compute node may execute a failover operation to continue servicing the request for the data. The executing of a failover operation may include establishing a second connection between the client application and a second database of the database cluster.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for backing up a profile of in a repository are disclosed. The method of backing up a profile is a method of backing up a profile in a subscriber management server, and includes receiving a backup request for a profile stored in an authentication module from the authentication module, providing information for at least one repository to the authentication module, the information being generated by confirming a state of the at least one repository to back up the profile according to the backup request, and storing the profile in a repository selected by the authentication module based on the information for at least one repository. Therefore, the user can directly select a reliable repository and back up the profile of the authentication module.

The methods and systems can include a database management component configured to manage database instances, the database management component also configured to receive a first data request operation on the distributed database, an execution component configured to process the first data request operation including at least one write request on at least one database instance managed by the database management component, and a fault prediction component configured to detect a potential page fault responsive to a target data of the write request, wherein the execution component is further configured to suspend execution of the first data request operation, request access a physical storage to read the target data into active memory, and re-execute the first data request operation after a period of time for suspending the first data request operation.

Abstract: A distributed database management system provides a central database resident on a server that contains database objects. Objects, e.g., program guide data, to be replicated are gathered together into distribution packages called “slices,” that are transmitted to client devices. A slice is a subset of the central database which is relevant to clients within a specific domain, such as a geographic region, or under the footprint of a satellite transmitter. The viewer selects television programs and Web content from displayed sections of the program guide data which are recorded to a storage device. The program guide data are used to determine when to start and end recordings. Client devices periodically connect to the server using a phone line and upload information of interest which is combined with information uploaded from other client devices for statistical, operational, or viewing models.

Abstract: A distributed database system may perform a single phase commit for transactions involving updates to multiple databases of the distributed database system. A client request may be received that involves updates to multiple database of the distributed database system. The updates may be performed at a front-end database and a back-end database. Log records indicating the updates to the front-end database may be sent to the back-end database. The log records and the updates performed at the back-end database may be committed together as a single phase commit at the back-end database. In the event of a system failure of the front-end database, log records may be requested and received from the back-end database. A restoration of the front-end database may be performed based, at least in part, on the received log records.

Abstract: In some example embodiments, a method comprises: receiving, by a first node of a plurality of nodes in a distributed database system on a shared disk cluster infrastructure, a transaction request to perform a user database transaction a data item in a user database on a shared disk; acquiring, by the first node, a transaction lock for the data item; storing a lock file for the user database transaction in a lock information database on the shared disk, the lock file comprising lock information for the transaction lock and an indication of a status of the user database transaction, and the lock information comprising an identification of a location of the data item; and storing a transaction record of the user database transaction in the user database on the shared disk subsequent to the storing of the lock file in the lock information database on the shared disk.
