Abstract:
The present invention relates to a powder distributor for electrostatic painting provided with reciprocating vertical movement, wherein the powder in mixture with air reaches the center of a sectional element, for example a disk, which disperses it evenly over its perimetral rim.The distributor comprises a reservoir divided into two chambers by an intermediate porous septum, a first, upper chamber into which a first, powder-in-air suspension feed circuit debouches, and a second, lower chamber into which a second, compressed air feed conduit debouches. Provision can also be made for a third conduit, for compressed air feed, the compressed air being in such case discharged parallel to the direction of discharge of the powder suspension.
Abstract:
An electric field device is obtained by the steps of employing a highly pure and mechanically electrically chemically and thermally extremely durable ceramic material, such as a high purity alumina porcelain, as a dielectric material, disposing electrodes on the shaped material before sintering by a thick film printing technique, such as screen printing, with a dispersion ink of finely divided metal, e.g. tungsten, and sintering the shaped material integrally with the electrodes. The product is extremely dense, mechanically electrically chemically and thermally durable and highly reliable.
Abstract:
An electrode arrangement for a coating installation which functions with the aid of an electric field. The electrode arrangement includes a pair of electrodes for creating an electrostatic field with at least one of the electrodes being fashioned with a sharp edge or tip. The electrode is disposed in a conduit and excess pressure or a vacuum is applied to the conduit with respect to the pressure in the coating chamber of the coating installation in an area of the electrode so that the coating medium is either prevented from coming into contact with the electrode or is suctioned off through the conduit system. By virtue of the provision of the suction removal means for the excess coating medium, the conduit system can be placed in direct communication with the ambient pressure. Additionally, the electrode may be arranged in a vacuum zone of the coating chamber.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are disclosed for the spraycoating of the interior of a hollow body, one region of which, e.g. a seam, must receive a heavier coating than the remainder of the surface to be sprayed. A single spray coating operation is performed, in which a relatively heavy spray jet is concentrated on the seam and a relatively thin cloud of coating material is used to coat the entire interior surface of the body. Preferably, a cloud of electrostatically charged coating material is formed by an atomizer fed by a feed conduit from which a certain amount of coating material is diverted to be formed into the relatively highly concentrated spray jet directed at the seam. The relatively high-velocity particles of material of the spray jet which is concentrated onto the seam and the relatively low-velocity particles of material of the coating cloud together produce on the seam a thinner layer of material than would normally suffice and which, nonetheless, adheres well.
Abstract:
An electrostatic, coating-dispensing apparatus includes an electrode upon which an electrostatic potential is impressed. The electrostatic potential is developed by a switching circuit, autotransformer and voltage multiplier from rectified line voltage. The entire apparatus is housed in a hand-held applicator to which line voltage is supplied. In one embodiment, suitable for the hobbyist, the apparatus includes a socket defined at one end thereof for interchangeably receiving containers holding various colors or types of coating material. Each container includes an electrode for contacting the first-mentioned electrode. The containers are shaped to fit snugly into the socket to hold the two electrodes in contact. An outer end wall of each container has a mesh portion through which charged particles of coating material from the interior of the container pass when the apparatus is activated. In another embodiment suitable for industrial applications, the coating material and any other necessary supplies, such as compressed air, are provided through hoses to the dispensing apparatus. The electrostatic potential supply is sufficiently compact that it can be housed within the hand-held dispensing apparatus.
Abstract:
The disclosed gun is of the type having a housing with a nozzle and a deflecting plate spaced from the muzzle and mounted on a rod axially guided in the muzzle, the annular channel formed between the muzzle and the rod serving as a powder channel. Electrodes extend into the powder channel and are connected to a high voltage source. A stepping motor is connected to the rod to change its axial position, and control means are connected to the motor. Digital circuits inside the housing and manually operable switches permit automatic control or manual control from the gun of the deflecting plate spacing, the voltage, and the powder feed. Indicating means on the gun display the values of the controlled parameters.
Abstract:
A powder stripe application system wherein substantially all powder introduced into the system is applied to side seam areas of can bodies with that powder which is not initially bonded to a can body being directly recycled within the system. The system includes a delivery nozzle which has an adjustable mounting which permits the powder stream to be positioned as desired.
Abstract:
Electrostatic powder-coating method, whereby a fan-spray of electrically charged powder particles is directed toward an object to be coated, said spray being formed from an incident stream consisting of a mixture of powder and carrier-gas, comprising means for re-homogenizing said incident stream, means for subsequently deflecting said stream in a direction substantially perpendicular to its incident direction, means for thereafter driving said stream against the internal walls of a duct designed to convert said stream into a fan-shaped spray, and means for electrically charging the powder particles of the said spray. The re-homogenizing means may, however, be omitted in certain cases.
Abstract:
Apparatus for powder coating the inside of can bodies, either along a strip or completely, comprises a spray head having an inlet opening fed through a gun with a powder-air mixture and an exit opening located so as to deliver the powder-air stream transversely to the gun axis onto the can body. The exit opening is either a slot-type nozzle for applying a strip, or an annular opening for a complete coating of the can. So as to apply the coating in a precisely limited form without rebound, insert baffles in the form of rods are fixed in the spray head passage which expands between the entry and exit openings to slow down, distribute and orient the powder-air stream towards the exit opening. A deflector wall is located at the end of the passage to deflect the powder-air stream towards the exit opening. Where the slot-type nozzle is used, the powder-air stream may enter an antichamber having an outlet slot parallel to the nozzle and a further slot opening into the passage beyond the antichamber to be deflected into the portion of the nozzle beyond the antichamber by a series of inclined deflector walls. A separate stream of air, separate from the powder-air stream, may be fed into the passage beneath these deflector walls.
Abstract:
In an installation for the electrostatic projection of powders for coating objects, a method of improving the efficiency of projection and deposit of the said powders consists of increasing the relative humidity of the projection gas in the immediate vicinity of the projection nozzle by means of mixing the jet of gas which conveys the coating powder, at the level of the projection nozzle, with a jet of auxiliary gas previously heated and humidified by means of an appropriate liquid. In an alternative method, there is comprised the further step of reducing the temperature of the main jet of gas before this main jet is mixed with the auxiliary gas.The apparatus for carrying the method into effect comprises the heating and humidifying devices for the auxiliary gas and a device for cooling the main gas.
