Abstract: An impedance matching device includes a matching element array unit with a matching element array to which a transmission pulse and a received pulse pass, an extraction/calculation unit extracting pulse information from the transmission pulse and the received pulse, calculating impedance values corresponding to the pulse information, and calculating an impedance value having best response characteristics of the received pulse with respect to the transmission pulse as a matching impedance value, an array control unit routing the matching element array unit according to the matching impedance value, a first converter converting a frequency of the transmission pulse into a carrier frequency and outputting the transmission pulse to the matching element array unit, a second converter converting the carrier frequency into a low frequency, and a converter control unit outputting a signal for controlling the frequency converting of the first converter and the second converter.

Abstract: A miniature rangefinder includes a housing, a micromachined ultrasonic transducer, and signal processing circuitry. The housing includes a substrate and a lid. The housing has one or more apertures and the micromachined ultrasonic transducer is mounted over an aperture. The micromachined ultrasonic transducer may function as both a transmitter and a receiver. An integrated circuit is configured to drive the transducer to transmit an acoustic signal, detect a return signal, and determine a time of flight between emitting the acoustic signal and detecting the return signal.

Abstract: Phacoemulsification apparatus includes a phacoemulsification handpiece having a needle and an electrical circuitry for ultrasonic vibrating the needle. A power source provides pulsed electrical power to the handpiece electrical circuitry and an input is provided for enabling a surgeon to select an amplitude of dislighted pulses and a pulse width. A control system and pulse duty cycle is provided for controlling the off duty cycle to insure heat dissipation before a subsequent pulse is activated, including a foot pedal switch.

Abstract: Delay line memory device, systems and methods are disclosed. In one aspect, a delay line memory device includes a substrate; an electronic unit disposed on the substrate and operable to receive, amplify, and/or synchronize data signals into a bit stream to be transmitted as acoustic pulses carrying data stored in the delay line memory device; a first and a second piezoelectric transducer disposed on the substrate and in communication with the electronic unit, in which the first piezoelectric transducer is operable to transmit the data signals to the acoustic pulses that carry the data through the bulk of the substrate, and the second piezoelectric transducer is operable to transduce the received acoustic pulses to intermediate electrical signals containing the data, which are transferred to the electronic unit via an electrical interconnect to cause refresh of the data in the delay line memory device.

Abstract: Transducer driving methods and transducer driving systems are described. According to one aspect, a transducer driving method includes providing a plurality of initial driving signals to a transducer, wherein each of the initial driving signals has a respective one of a plurality of different frequencies, identifying one of the frequencies where the transducer has a reduced impedance as a result of the provision of one of the initial driving signals having the one frequency to the transducer compared with impedances of the transducer resulting from the provision of others of the initial driving signals having others of the frequencies to the transducer, determining that the identified one of the frequencies is not acceptable for driving the transducer, as a result of the determining, identifying another of the frequencies, and driving the transducer using another driving signal having the another frequency.
