Abstract: Elastomer compositions with high dielectric constants are disclosed. Embodiments of the disclosure include a high dielectric constant (high-K) elastomeric composition comprising an elastomer, carbon black (CB), and organoclay (OC). The composition is not dependent on any raw material with inherent high-k or any metal oxide type material that changes conductivity with applied voltages. The composition instead uses distributed electric fields and polarizability with carbon black and organoclays. This allows for a high-k material through polarizability with limited large-scale electron sharing.

Abstract: The present disclosure pertains to coatings with self-repairing capabilities. In some embodiments, the coatings may include a polymer blend, made up of at least two polymers. The coatings may further contain compatibilizers that are nanocontainer particles. The nanocontainers may be filled with self-healing agents. The self-healing agents may be agents that heal cracks formed in the coating or they may be anti-corrosion agents that reduce the corrosion of the underlying metal substrate.

Abstract: A method includes heating a sulfonated polyester resin in an organic-free solvent, adding a solution of silver (I) ion to the heated resin in water to form a mixture, reducing silver (I) to silver(0) by heating the mixture from about 65° C. to about 90° C., thereby forming an emulsion of composite particles comprising a sulfonated polyester matrix and a plurality of silver nanoparticles disposed within the sulfonated polyester matrix, and allowing the silver nanoparticles to agglomerate into a silver nanodendrite structure.

Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, novel superparamagnetic magneto-dielectric polymer nanocomposites are synthesized using a novel process. The tunability of the dielectric/magnetic properties demonstrated by this novel highly-viscous solvent-free polymer nanocomposite that is amenable to building 3D electromagnetic structures/devices by using processes such as 3D printing, compression molding or injection molding, when an external DC magnetic field is applied, exceeds what has been previously reported for magneto-dielectric polymer nanocomposite materials.

Abstract: Methods of preparing high-density polyethylene (HDPE) nanocomposites by in situ polymerization with a zirconocene catalyst, a methylaluminoxane cocatalyst, a calcium zirconate nanofiller in a solvent. The calcium zirconate nanofiller, which is dispersed across the polyethylene matrix, is found to enhance catalyst activity, and other properties of the HDPE nanocomposites produced, including but not limited to flame retardency, crystallinity and surface morphology.

Abstract: Embodiments herein are related to hydrophilic open cell foams with particulate fillers. In an embodiment, an article is provided that has an open cell foam structure including a hydrophilic polymer and about 0.1 wt. % to about 40.0 wt. % of a particulate filler dispersed within the hydrophilic polymer. The open cell foam structure can exhibit a rate of absorption of water greater than an otherwise identical foam lacking the particulate filler. Other embodiments are included herein.
