Abstract:
A high performance lubricating grease effectively lubricates and greases front-wheel drive joints. The lubricating grease has excellent extreme pressure properties and antiwear qualities and is economical, effective, and safe. In one preferred form, the lubricating grease comprises a base oil, a polyurea thickener, an additive package comprising calcium sulfate and calcium acetate.
Abstract:
Lubricant additives are producd by reacting an alkoxplated amine with phosphorous acid. The additives preferably also contain a boron moiety which is reacted with the phosphorous acid and amine, preferably in a one step reaction. More preferably, a mono-functional alcohol or a long-chain aliphatic carboxylic acid is added to this mixture. The additives are particularly useful in metalworking oils and particularly as extreme pressure additives to replace the currently used chlorinated paraffin additives.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition is provided which is a stable dispersion of a synthetic oil, such as polyalphaolefin oil; finely divided polymeric fluorocarbon powder, such as polytetrafluoroethylene (e.g., Teflon); a silicon dioxide powder which is substantially 100% hydrophobic; a glycol, such as polypropylene glycol; a substance to increase viscosity, such as polybutene; and an agent to withstand extreme compression loads, such as an amine phosphate. The lubricating composition is made where ingredients are added in a particular sequence and where they are subjected to the shearing action at the elevated temperatures and under vacuum. The lubricating composition provides high corrosion resistance due to the absence of dissolved air and moisture. It also has an excellent lubricity, extremely low moisture absorbancy, a very low oxidation rate and an outstanding performance under extreme compression conditions.
Abstract:
A dispersing agent for use in dispersing a finely divided solid powder in a nonaqueous dispersion medium and a dispersion prepared by using the dispersing agent. The dispersing agent of this invention is a low acid value lanolin fatty acid and/or a salt of the same. By means of this dispersing agent, there can be easily obtained a homogeneous and stable nonaqueous dispersion from which the incorporated solid particles will not separate out or settle even on prolonged standing. Therefore, this dispersing agent can be used advantageously in a broad range of applications such as coatings, dyes, pigments, inks, fuels, lubricating materials and so on.
Abstract:
A process is provided for lubricating and protecting bearings in steel and process mills. In the process, metal is processed in the mill and conveyed on caster rollers. The caster rollers are lubricated with a special grease which enhances the longevity of the rollers, protects the rollers from rust and corrosion, and prevents the grease from leaking out of the rollers. In the preferred form, the grease comprises a water-resistant polymer to prevent the grease from washing out of the rollers and bearings when the metal workpiece is quenched with a high pressure water spray.
Abstract:
A high performance sulfated lubricating grease effectively lubricates front-wheel drive joints as well as other equipment. The lubricating grease has excellent extreme pressure properties and antiwear qualities and is economical, effective, and safe. In one preferred form, the sulfated lubricating grease comprises a base oil, a polyurea thickener, a borated oil-separation inhibitor, and a special synergistic, additive package comprising calcium sulfate and calcium carbonate.
Abstract:
Aqueous fluids having a good combination of anti-bacterial properties, stability in hard water, a reduced foaming tendency in soft water and at times a reduced boron content are obtained by the use as additive of a combination of a water-soluble hydroxy di- or tri- carboxylic acid an an excess of an alkanolamine, additive concentrates for incorporation into the aqueous fluids and the aqueous fluids themselves.
Abstract:
A process is provided for preventing grease fires, which is particularly useful in steel mills and process mills. In the process, when a flame is ignited and approaches a special grease, the special grease emits carbon dioxide to extinguish the flame and prevents combustion of the grease.
Abstract:
A high performance ballistic grease is used in ammunition and a lubricating process to protect the barrel of a weapon from corrosion and overheating. The ballistic grease, ammunition, and process improve the structural integrity and accuracy of the weapon and are economical, nontoxic, effective, and safe. The preferred ballistic lubricating grease comprises a polyalphaolefin base oil, an amorphous silicon dioxide thickener, and a disodium octaborate tetrahydrate additive.
