Abstract:
An apparatus for spring-assisted pivoting a liftgate or door against gravity between a closed position and an open position includes a torsion bar spring system with springs arranged in parallel in a meander pattern and connected with one another in fixed rotative engagement. An outer bearing-torsion bar spring and another outer lever-torsion bar spring are each supported in a support bracket of a tracker. The lever-torsion bar spring is connected in fixed rotative engagement with a length-adjustable lever guided in a control cam of the tracker. A coupling rod configured for translatory movement engages with the length-adjustable lever for rotating a hinged lever associated with the liftgate or door. An adjusting device is connected with the bearing-torsion bar spring in fixed rotative engagement and can be variably locked relative to the support bracket. A method for producing such apparatus is also disclosed.

Abstract:
A tool for use in installation, adjustment and removal of an energy storage device for a counterbalance system. The tool includes a member rotatable to manipulate a spring carriage. One embodiment includes a threaded shaft, an engagement member which engages the slidable carriage, a locking nut disposed on the threaded shaft, and a bearing member disposed to the threaded shaft between the locking nut and the engagement member. A position of the slidable carriage between compressed and extended positions relative the track housing is adjustable by rotation of the threaded shaft. Another embodiment includes a frame, a cable spool rotatably attached to the frame, and having a gear attached in a co-axial arrangement to the cable spool, and a worm gear attached to the frame. The spool gear is rotatable by the worm gear to apply axial force to the slidable carriage by winding the counterbalance cable.
Abstract:
A door system (10) including, a door (D) movably mounted on a track assembly (15), a counterbalance system (20) connected to the door and having at least one spring (25), a tool adapter (26) proximate at least one end of the counterbalance system, a detachable winding assembly (30) adapted to selectively engage and selectively rotate the tool adapter to adjust tensioning of the spring, and a locking assembly (36) interacting with the counterbalance system to maintain a selected tensioning of the counterbalance system upon detaching the winding assembly from the tool adapter.
Abstract:
A hinge including a first hinge member and a second hinge member that is rotatably coupled to the first hinge member. The hinge has a torsion spring with a first end of the spring secured relative to the first hinge member and a second end adjustably securable relative to the second hinge member. An adjustment mechanism is included and is capable of disengaging the second end of the spring relative to the second hinge member and into engagement relative to the first hinge member to allow rotation of the second hinge member relative to the second end of the spring, and then re-engage the second end of the spring relative to the second hinge member, thereby changing engagement position of the second end of the spring relative to the second hinge member and adjusting the torsional spring tension.
Abstract:
A winding system for winding a rolling door assembly. The winding system includes a support bracket, first and second gears. The support bracket is preferably rigidly connectable to a fixed structure of the rolling door assembly, and has a receiving device and a supporting device. The first gear is pivotally mounted about the receiving device of the support bracket and rotatable thereabout along opposite first and second directions of rotation. The second gear is pivotally mounted about the supporting device of the support bracket and rotatable thereabout along opposite first and second directions of rotation. The first gear is operatively connected to a corresponding end of the counterbalancing spring of the rolling door assembly. The second gear is threadably engaged with the first gear such that, a rotation of the second gear along one of its first and second directions of rotation causes the first gear to rotate along a corresponding one of its first and second directions of rotation, thereby resulting in a corresponding winding of the counterbalancing spring of the rolling door assembly.
Abstract:
Apparatus for tensioning torsion spring, shaft-mounted in association with a spring cone, has a central ratchet assembly with two spaced, cogged ratchet wheels, slotted to allow the assembly to be rotatably positioned over the shaft. The ratchet assembly is connectable to the spring cone so that the spring cone will rotate with the ratchet assembly. The ratchet wheel slots are closed off by cogged bridging members that create a continuous cogged perimeter around each ratchet wheel. Pawl-equipped levers are positioned over the ratchet wheels with the pawls engageably aligned with the ratchet wheel cogs, and then operated in alternating fashion to rotate the ratchet assembly and spring cone, thus tensioning the spring. Upon achieving a desired spring tension, the spring cone may be secured to the shaft, whereupon the bridging members may be retracted from the ratchet wheel slots to permit removal of the apparatus from the shaft.
Abstract:

Abstract:
An apparatus for winding a spring on a shaft, such as for counterbalancing a roll-up door, includes a housing that carries a transmission which is positionable over the shaft. The transmission is configured to be coupled via a connector to one end of the spring, while the other end of the spring is fixed to the shaft. Rotation of the transmission results in a turning of the connector and a winding and/or elongation of the spring.
