Abstract: A spiral balance device for sash windows has a pipe inside of which extends a spiral rod having a screw section. A lower end of the spiral rod extends through a slot in a coupling rotatably disposed inside the lower end of the pipe and projects from the lower end of the pipe. A torsion spring has an upper end fixed near the upper end of the pipe and a lower end fixed to the coupling. A fixing member is fixed within the upper end of the pipe, and an adjustment member rotatably disposed below the fixing member engages with the upper end of the spiral rod. A ratchet mechanism disposed between the fixing member and adjustment member allows rotation of the adjustment member in a direction of winding the torsion spring and prevents rotation of the adjustment member in a direction of unwinding the torsion spring.

Abstract: A device to apply a rotational force to a spring of a rollup or overhead garage door counterbalancing mechanism. The device has a rotatable driven member mounted in a housing. The housing and the driven member have slots with an open end adapted to receive the shaft of the overhead garage door counterbalancing mechanism. A coupling member is configured to mount to the driven member and connect the driven member to the winding cone of a garage door spring to apply rotational force to the spring. The housing with the driven member may be connected to the body of an existing power tool in place of the original tool head, or, the housing may be permanently combined with a motor and transmission to provide a special purpose tool.

Abstract: A device that converts an existing power tool to apply a rotational force to a spring of a rollup or overhead door counterbalancing mechanism. The device has a rotatable driven member mounted in a casting that carries a power transmitting structure. The casting and the driven member have slots with an open end for accommodating the shaft of the counterbalancing mechanism. A removable novel coupling structure inserts into the driven member and connects the driven member to the winding cone of a spring so that rotation of the driven member will apply rotational force to the spring. The casting with the driven member is connected to the body of an existing power tool in place of the original tool head. A motor in the existing power tool body is connected to the power transmitting structure in the casting to rotate the driven member.

Abstract: A winding tool for tightening a torsion spring for a sectional overhead door. The winding tool features two half hub assembles that wrap around an overhead door shaft, wherein a translational sprocket is disposed on the hub assemblies. The hub assemblies connect to the winding cone of a torsion spring via fingers that engage the hub assemblies. A winding box is removably attached to the hub assemblies.
