Abstract:
Oils derived essentially from petroleum and which are liquids at ambient room temperature and meet a certain molecular weight/percent paraffin content parameter may be used as the only necessary external lubricants for rigid vinyl halide resin compositions when said oils are added to the resin compositions in sufficient quantity to permit satisfactory molding and extrusion of the resulting resin compositions. Such oils may also be employed to form liquid lubricating and stabilizing compositions for rigid vinyl halide resin formulations which lubricating and stabilizing compositions are liquids at ambient room temperature or at temperature of about 50.degree. C. or less. Rigid resin compositions containing such oils and/or liquid lubricating and stabilizing compositions are readily prepared and easily processed.
Abstract:
A process for the production of an aqueous lubricant composition free of oil including water and at least one metallic carboxylate, wherein the anionic is at least one saturated linear organic radical containing at least 12 carbon atoms and the cationic is at least one bivalent or trivalent metal having an electro-chemical oxidation-reduction potential greater than -0.7 volts. The process includes mixing of two mother solutions. The first mother solution is an aqueous solution of at least one alkali metal carboxylate soluble in water wherein the anionic is at least one saturated linear organic radical with at least 12 carbon atoms. The second mother solution is an aqueous solution of at least one metallic salt whereof the anionic is selected from the group consisting of hydroxide, chloride, sulphate, nitrate or phosphate ions and whereof the cationic is at least one bivalent or trivalent metal having an electro-chemical oxidation reduction potential greater than -0.70 volts.
Abstract:
A light colored, open gear lubricating grease is formed from:a lubricating base oila clay thickenera combination of a polymer, preferably atactic polypropylene, and a particulate mineral, preferably zinc oxide, as tactifier and filler, andand alkali metal borate as EP additive. The ratio of polymer to mineral, may be from 1.5:1 to 1:1.5. An aromatic disulphide, preferably dibenzyl disulphide, may also be present as an EP additive and, if so, the wt. ratio of borate to disulphide may be from 5:1 to 7:1.
Abstract:
A novel lubricant composition is disclosed, which contains not less than 0.1% by weight of at least one calcium ferrite having the following general formula:Ca.sub.x Fe.sub.y O.sub.x+(3/2)ywherein x is 1 or 2 and y is 2 or 4, provided that y is 2 or 4 when x is 1, and y is 2 when x is 2. The calcium ferrites may be monocalcium ferrite, dicalcium ferrite or hemicalcium ferrite, produced by mixing iron oxide and a calcium compound in a molar ratio of 1:0.5 to 1:2 and fusing them by heating at a temperature of 1200.degree.-1400.degree. C. The resultant material contains not more than 5% by weight of the whole, of ferric oxide, silica and alumina as impurities. The calcium ferrites have a maximum particle size of 100.mu., preferably 0.15.mu.. They can be used as such for lubricant purposes, or can be incorporated in a lubricating oil or grease, such as a mineral oil, in an amount more than 0.1% by weight and preferably more than 1% by weight.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a synthetic post-pickle fluid composition which is useful for treating metal to provide corrosion resistance and act as a lubricant for further metal processing. In the preferred embodiment, the composition contains an aqueous solution of a base and a carboxylic acid. The composition may also include fatty acids, viscosity controllers, i.e., thickeners, extreme pressure additives, and optionally may include a chelating agent. In a second embodiment, the composition contains an aqueous solution of a base and a fatty acid at more then 7 percent of the total composition. Examples of suitable bases include potassium hydroxide, monoethanol amine and diethanolamine. Examples of suitable carboxylic acids are the aromatic carboxylic acids and C.sub.4-16 dibasic carboxylic acids. The composition has a basic pH.

A lubricant composition for hot forging operations is disclosed which includes water and phthalates made by reacting phthalic acids with alkali metal hydroxides. Other additives may be present such as thickeners, extreme pressure (E.P.) additives, suspending agents, germicides, anti-wear agents, pigments, corrosion inhibitors, wetting agents, dyes, and perfumes. A hot forging process based on the above lubricant is also disclosed.
Abstract:
An improved process for cold mechanical working of metallic materials is disclosed, in which a lubricant containing salts of carboxylic acids with more than ten, and preferably 15 to 20, carbon atoms. The lubricant also contains at least one organic solvent with a boiling point below 200.degree. C., and preferably at least one organic solvent with a boiling point below 30.degree. C. In a preferred embodiment, tensides are added to reduce surface tension. The lubricant combines the advantages of solid and liquid lubricants, and permits the cold mechanical working of materials with high tensile strength.
