Abstract:
A steel cord-rubber composite is provided, that has improved initial adhesion property and adhesion property against aging between the steel cord and the rubber composition with improved manufacturing cost efficiency. A steel cord-rubber composition composite includes a coating layer and a steel cord, and the coating layer includes an inner coating layer formed of a rubber composition containing a rubber component, a cobalt compound and sulfur and directly covering the steel cord, and an outer coating layer formed of a rubber composition of which contents of cobalt compound and sulfur are smaller than those of the inner coating layer and coating the outer portion of the inner coating layer.
Abstract:
A synthetic rope has multiple layers of load-bearing aramide fiber strands laid together with a coating on the synthetic fiber strands in the outermost layer of strands. The coating includes an impregnating substance with additives of UV stabilizers, short fibers, and oxidation and reduction blockers to provide reliable protection against environmental influences damaging to the rope, as well as an unchanged adequate resistance of the synthetic fiber rope to abrasion.
Abstract:
A sheathed synthetic fiber rope includes concentric layers of load-bearing synthetic fiber strands, preferably of aramide fibers, with an outermost layer of strands having anchoring strands permanently fastened to a sheath extruded onto the outermost layer. The anchoring strands can be formed of weldable or vulcanizable material. Alternatively, a polyurethane jacket surrounding each of the outermost layer strands can be used to permanently fasten the sheath.
Abstract:
A hoist rope for an elevator is formed from synthetic, non-metallic materials. The hoist rope includes a plurality of load-carrying strands with each strand encased within a coating layer. The coating layers provide protection against wear and provide sufficient lubricity to permit relative movement of the strands to equalize loading on the strands. The plurality of strands are surrounded by a jacket. The jacket provides sufficient traction with a traction sheave, transfers traction loads to the strands while permitting movement of the strands, and provides a flame retardant characteristic to the hoist rope. In one embodiment of an passenger conveyor system, the hoist rope is engaged with a traction sheave having a sheave liner. The material for the jacket and sheave liner are selected to optimize the coefficient of friction between the hoist rope and traction sheave.
Abstract:
A PC strand is formed by twisting peripheral wires made of deformed PC steel wires around a core, and allowing rust inhibitive material of thermoplastic resin to permeate into voids defined among the core and peripheral wires by use of an extruder. Since at least one of the core and peripheral wires is made of a deformed PC steel wire having an uneven outer surface, the thermoplastic resin can smoothly permeate deep into the inside of the PC strand.
Abstract:
A composite abrasive filament, including at least one preformed core at least partially coated with a hardened, abrasive-filled thermoplastic elastomer, exhibits increased abrading life over previously known abrasive filaments. Also disclosed are methods of making such filaments and using such filaments in article form to abrade a variety of workpieces.

Abstract:
A composite material, particularly useful for prestressing concrete and in stay cables for cable-stayed bridges and other such uses where strength, corrosion resistance and resistance to fatigue failure are particularly important, comprises high strength wire strand coated and impregnated with an impermeable and strongly adherent epoxy based resin. The impregnated and coated epoxy increases the flexural stiffness of the composite against bending fatigue in the areas of the anchorages in dynamically loaded situations and reduces relative movement and rubbing of the wires of the strand so as to reduce fretting and hence fretting fatigue, the principal mechanism for failure in dynamically loaded strand. Impregnation and coating are effected by passing the fully formed and heated strand through a known electrostatic powder coating line, modified to include a mechanism for temporarily opening successive sections of the strand such that the strand passes into the coater in an opened state, and the strand wires are coated with a fused thermosetting epoxy resin before the strand is permitted to reclose, the resin filling the interstices in the reclosed strand. The strand opening mechanism includes a rotatable template with wire guides for leading the outer spiraled wires temporarily away from the center wire, and can be used in any method where a formed strand or similar member needs to be opened for coating or otherwise surface treating the interior wire surfaces in a continuous process.
Abstract:
An unbonded PC steel strand used for posttensioning concrete comprising a PC steel strand composed of a plurality of stranded wires, a zinc plated layer on the outer surface of the PC steel strand, a greaselike filler applied around the zinc plated layer, and a synthetic resin sheath covering the zinc and filler coated PC steel strand. A method of manufacturing the unbonded PC steel strand comprising steps of pickling and water washing the PC steel strand, coating the outer surface of the PC steel strand with flux, plating the outer surface of the PC steel strand with zinc, applying a greaselike corrosion inhibitor to the surface of the zinc plated layer and sheathing the PC steel strand with an outer synthetic resin sheath.
