Abstract:
The invention relates to a liquid non-vulcanizable polysiloxane and boron compound for use for hydrostatically damping and shock absorbing mechanical energy in apparatus of various types, as for instance in bump stops for elevators and overhead jib cranes, fenders for vehicles and the like. The composition for mechanical energy absorption comprises boro siloxane polymers, fillers, pigments and alkyl-aryl-siloxane oils.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process of preparing stable suspensions of Mg(OH).sub.2 which comprises blending Mg(OH).sub.2 powder with acid in a surfactant-containing fluid to effect particle size reduction of the starting Mg(OH).sub.2 powder. In practice, the mole-fraction of acid employed is less than 50% of that stoichiometrically necessary for the formation of the magnesium salt.
Abstract:
Novel grease compositions are described which comprise:(a) A major amount of a shielded polysilicate compound selected from the group consisting of alkoxysilane cluster compounds, alkoxysilanol cluster compounds, alkoxysilane ester compounds, alkoxysilane multiple cluster compounds, silicone-bridged alkoxysilane double cluster compounds, distillation residues containing these compounds and mixtures thereof; and(b) an amount of at least one grease thickener sufficient to thicken said shielded polysilicate compound to a grease consistency.
Abstract:
Seize is prevented between metal surfaces exposed to high temperature and corrosive gases by an antiseize coating layer. The coating comprises per 100 weight parts, about 10-30 parts chemically inert anti-seize particles that have a fusion point above about 100.degree. C. and are in the size range of from about 2-100 microns; about 5-25 parts of a polymeric binder resin that is adherent to metal surfaces; and the balance, a volatile solvent for the resin. The liquid coating is applied by suitable means, and dried by evaporating the solvent. At least a layer of the particles remains dispersed in the dried resin and provides the coating with its antiseize properties.
Abstract:
This invention relates to stable, fluid magnesium-containing dispersions and the preparations thereof by the high temperature dehydration of Mg(OH).sub.2 to MgO in a dispersant-containing fluid.
Abstract:
A process for the lubrication of a tool surface which comprises high pressure blast spraying a powder lubricant having a particle size of 0.6 to 1.5 .mu. at a spray pressure of 4 to 5 bar, onto the tool surface thereby producing a high temperature compacted coherent lubricant film on the surface while simultaneously smoothing, strengthening and compressively stressing the tool surface.
Abstract:
A fluidic fluid composition containing lamellar micelles and which exhibits retro-viscous properties at noncryogenic temperatures is composed of 7.00-7.35% of a surfactant (preferably petroleum sulfonate having an average equivalent weight of 350-525), 50.00-54.00% of liquid hydrocarbon, 24.80-28.00% of water and optionally up to 13.00-13.95% of a cosurfactant (preferably an alcohol containing 1-20 carbon atoms) and/or electrolyte (preferably inorganic salt). The micelles within the composition must have an axial ratio of at least 3.5. The composition is substantially optically clear, phase stable, birefrigent, and the flow properties are such that substantially large increases in flow rates, e.g. 20-fold, can be realized at very small pressure increases, e.g. 5%. Additional additives to impart desired properties can be included with the composition.
Abstract:
The heavy reaction product obtained upon separation, as by distillation, of light reaction products of branched aliphatic dinitriles is useful as rust inhibitor in lubricating oils and greases.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition for use alone or in a lubricating base, comprising a finely divided carbonate of Group IIA metal and a halogenated organic lubricant.
Abstract:
An improved lubricating oil composition comprising a major amount by weight of oil of lubricating viscosity; a minor amount by weight of solid particles effective to improve the lubricating properties of the composition; and a minor amount of a nitrogen containing mixed ester of a carboxy containing interpolymer. This composition provides improved inhibition of sludge and varnish formation in use.
