A liquefied gas e.g., methane container of polygonal cross-section e.g., rectangular, has its vertical walls 10, 12, 14, 16, Fig. 2, stiffened by a plurality of vertically spaced horizontal ribs 30 each secured to and extending continuously round the inner faces of said side walls, horizontal cross-tie members 32 extending between adjacent walls and spaced from the corners formed thereby and horizontal tie-in members 34a extending from the mid section of a wall to the opposite corner 38. As shown members 32, 34a, are connected to the ribs 32. In a modification parallel cross-brace members extend between opposite longer sides of the container and in a further modification tie-in members 34d, Fig. 5, are connected at their points of intersection to plates 40 to which are also connected struts 42, 44 serving as crossbrace members. In all embodiments the interior faces of the top and bottom of the tank are stiffened by beams and are connected together by vertical members 54, Fig. 1 (not shown).
