Abstract: Various examples are directed to routing autonomous vehicles. A processor unit accesses first routing graph modification data and second routing graph modification data. The first routing graph modification data based at least in part on first vehicle capability data describing a first type of autonomous vehicle and the second routing graph modification data based at least in part on second vehicle capability data describing a second type of autonomous vehicle. The processor unit accesses routing graph data describing a plurality of graph elements and generates a first route for a first autonomous vehicle of the first type based at least in part on the first routing graph modification data and the routing graph data. The processor unit also generates a second route for a second autonomous vehicle of the second type based at least in part on the second routing graph modification data and the routing graph data.

Abstract: A method for generating navigation routes for a vehicle includes: receiving an origin position, in a road network, of the vehicle; receiving a destination position, in the road network; receiving a user preference from a user interface device, the user preference indicating a tradeoff value having one of a plurality of values between travel time and energy efficiency; computing a time value for each of a plurality of road segments of the road network using a time consumption model; computing an energy consumption for each of the plurality of road segments of the road network using an energy consumption model; identifying a weighted route from the origin position to the destination position based on the time value and the energy consumption for the road segments and based on the user preference; and supplying the identified weighted route to a navigation system of the vehicle.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to using audible cues to guide a passenger to a vehicle having an autonomous driving mode. For instance, one or more processors of the vehicle may receive, from a server computing device, instructions to pick up the passenger at a pickup location. The one or more processors may maneuver the vehicle towards the pickup location in the autonomous driving mode. The one or more processors may receive a signal indicating that the passenger requests assistance locating the vehicle. The one or more processors may use the signal to generate the audible cues. The audible cues may be played by the one or more processors through a speaker of the vehicle in order to guide the passenger towards the vehicle.

Abstract: An autonomous driving system acquires information concerning a vehicle density in an adjacent lane that is adjacent to a lane on which an own vehicle is traveling, when the own vehicle travels on a road having a plurality of lanes. The autonomous driving system selects the adjacent lane as an own vehicle travel lane, when the vehicle density in the adjacent lane that is calculated from the acquired information is lower than a threshold density that is determined in accordance with relations between the own vehicle and surrounding vehicles. The autonomous driving system performs lane change to the adjacent lane autonomously, or propose lane change to the adjacent lane to a driver, when the adjacent lane is selected as the own vehicle travel lane.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for controlling braking a vehicle in an autonomous driving mode. For instance, the vehicle is controlled in the autonomous driving mode according to a first braking control mode using a first model to adjust the position of a vehicle relative to an expected position of a current trajectory of the vehicle. Using a second model how close to a maximum deviation threshold the vehicle would come if a maximum braking strength for the vehicle was applied is predicted. The maximum deviation threshold provides an allowed forward deviation from the current trajectory. Based on the prediction, the vehicle is controlled in the autonomous driving mode according to a second braking control mode by automatically applying the maximum braking strength.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to switching a driving mode of a vehicle. A mode change request from one of a plurality of sources to switch the vehicle from a first driving mode to a second driving mode is received. In response to receiving the mode change request, a status of the vehicle is accessed, and a confirmation request is transmitted to the one of the plurality of sources. Verification of the confirmation request is made, and a driving transition mode is initialized from the first driving mode to the second driving mode based on the status of the vehicle. In response to adhering to safety conditions or safety boundaries within a duration of time, a switching signal is sent to the control system of the vehicle to switch the vehicle from the first driving mode to the second driving mode.
