Abstract: Techniques are provided for tracking a virus footprint in data copies. Data copies can be made in a variety of ways, like with snapshots, backups, replications, and simple copies. As copies of files that have not been scanned since they were last modified are made, these copies can be kept track of, and associated with the original file. When the original file is later scanned and found to be clean or infected, this information can be propagated through the copies.

Abstract: A method for recovery of missing or extra data using a bloom filter includes: storing a plurality of transaction messages, each including a transaction value; generating a bloom filter of the transaction messages, the bloom filter being generated using a number of hash rounds and with a size at least double the number of transaction messages; generating a recover message including the number of transaction messages, the number of hash rounds, the size, and the generated bloom filter; transmitting the recover message to a consensus node; receiving a response message from the consensus node, the response message including at least one additional transaction message; and inserting the at least one additional transaction message into the plurality of transaction messages.

Abstract: In one approach, a set of data blocks or files is tracked for changes between snapshots. This may be done by a file system filter running in kernel mode. The data blocks or files that are tagged as unchanged are not transferred to backup because there is no need to update since the last backup. Other data blocks and files may be first tested for change, for example by comparing digital fingerprints of the current data versus the previously backed up data, before transferring to backup.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer readable medium for hybrid kernel-mode and user-mode checkpointing of multi-process applications. The computer readable medium includes computer-executable instructions for execution by a processing system. A multi-process application runs on primary hosts and is checkpointed by a checkpointer comprised of a kernel-mode checkpointer module and one or more user-space interceptors providing barrier synchronization, checkpointing thread, resource flushing, and an application virtualization space. Checkpoints may be written to storage and the application restored from said stored checkpoint at a later time. Checkpointing is transparent to the application and requires no modification to the application, operating system, networking stack or libraries. In an alternate embodiment the kernel-mode checkpointer is built into the kernel.

Abstract: Techniques involve: acquiring a first source snapshot for a source storage object stored in a source storage device; determining first difference data between the first source snapshot and the source storage object or a second source snapshot for the source storage object, creation time of the first source snapshot being associated with creation time of the second source snapshot; and sending the first difference data to a destination storage device to enable the destination storage device to create a first destination snapshot for a destination storage object stored in the destination storage device based on the first difference data. Such techniques can migrate snapshots more efficiently to improve storage management efficiency.

Abstract: A data management and storage (DMS) cluster of peer DMS nodes manages migration of an application between a primary compute infrastructure and a secondary compute infrastructure. The secondary compute infrastructure may be a failover environment for the primary compute infrastructure. Primary snapshots of virtual machines of the application in the primary compute infrastructure are generated, and provided to the secondary compute infrastructure. During a failover, the primary snapshots are deployed in the secondary compute infrastructure as virtual machines. Secondary snapshots of the virtual machines are generated, where the secondary snapshots are incremental snapshots of the primary snapshots. In failback, the secondary snapshots are provided to the primary compute infrastructure, where they are combined with the primary snapshots into construct a current state of the application, and the application is deployed in the current state by deploying virtual machines on the primary compute infrastructure.

Abstract: A rollback can be performed after completing an upgrade to components of a virtualized computing environment. When the upgrade is performed, an upgrade bundle having rollback scripts is provided to edges, hosts, and managers in the virtualized computing environment that are to be upgraded. When a rollback is to be performed, the rollback scripts are executed, and the components are rolled back in a reverse order relative to their upgrade order. Abstract: In one approach, filesets to be backed up are divided into partitions and snapshots are pulled for each partition. In one architecture, a data management and storage (DMS) cluster includes a plurality of peer DMS nodes and a distributed data store implemented across the peer DMS nodes. One of the peer DMS nodes receives fileset metadata for the fileset and defines a plurality of partitions for the fileset based on the fileset metadata. The peer DMS nodes operate autonomously to execute jobs to pull snapshots for each of the partitions and to store the snapshots of the partitions in the distributed data store.
