Abstract:
The object of the present invention is to prevent a light leakage from a boundary portion between the areas where the voltage to be applied to the liquid crystal varies, and reducing a light leakage on a contact hole provided for electrically connecting the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode in the case where the areas where the voltage to be applied to the liquid crystal varies are composed of two-layered pixel electrodes, namely, a first pixel electrode and a second pixel electrode. A liquid crystal display device of the invention includes a plurality of pixels provided on an insulating substrate, a scanning line provided on the insulating substrate which scans the pixels, liquid crystal which is interposed between the insulating substrate and a counter substrate countered to the insulating substrate, and areas where a voltage to be applied to the liquid crystal varies in one pixel, and is characterized in that a light shielding film for preventing a light leakage due to alignment disorder of the liquid crystal is provided to a boundary portion of the areas where the voltage to be applied to liquid crystal varies.

Abstract:
A liquid crystal display device is provided with a image data inputting means for inputting image data and a image data memory for storing image data comprising a number of bits which is fewer than the number of bits in the image data input to the image data inputting means, on the basis of this image data. In addition, a liquid crystal display device is provided with corrected data generating means for generating corrected data by correcting the current image data input to the image data inputting means, on the basis of previous image data stored in the image data memory. Consequently, the liquid crystal display device enables the capacity of image data memory for storing previous image data to be reduced, thereby yielding a merit in that cost savings can be achieved.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal display device comprising a sealing material provided on a periphery of a substrate, projections formed by etching a film formed on the subtrate, and another substrate opposite the substrate being remote therefrom by a gap and being supported by the projections. An area occupying rate of the projections portions with respect to a region enclosed by the sealing material is not less than 0.0001 and not more than 0.003. It is possible to obtain a liquid crystal display device free of display blurs at the time of using the same in a high temperature condition and with which no bubbles are generated when using the same in a low temperature condition by setting the area occupying ratio for the columnar spacers to be optimal value.
Abstract:
A display device comprising a display portion of planar type, electronic parts for driving the display portion through external signals, and mechanical parts for fixing the display portion and the electronic parts to specified positions. The mechanical parts comprise at least thin metallic parts and wherein nuts are either mounted to the metallic parts through caulking or metallic parts are directly threaded. By mounting various parts to the display device through caulked nuts or through directly performing threading of metal, it is possible to remarkably improve operability than compared to the prior art and to mount a large number of parts to the display device.
Abstract:
A backlight assembly for a liquid crystal display device comprising lamp units each including a lamp reflector, a lamp portion attached within the lamp reflector and lamp rubbers provided on both ends of the lamp portion, and a frame for holding the lamp units. The lamp units are arranged to include means for maintaining a predetermined clearance between at least end portions of the lamp units and the frame. It is possible to easily perform assembly and exchange of lamp units and to further achieve improvements in reliability.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a semitransparent display device includes the steps of forming a light shield film over a transparent display region on a transparent substrate, applying a photosensitive organic film over the transparent substrate coated with the light shield film, exposing and developing the photosensitive organic film to form a through hole extending through the photosensitive organic film in the transparent display region, removing the light shield film exposed through the through hole after forming the through hole, and forming a reflective film above the photosensitive organic film to form a reflective display region. Thereby, such a situation can be prevented that light reflected by a stage after passing through a TFT array substrate causes visible irregularities in thickness of an organic flattening film during exposure processing for forming the organic flattening film.
Abstract:
A light guide plate has a hologram pattern on a light exit surface. The hologram pattern anisotropically diffuses light in the direction parallel with a light incident surface of the light guide plate. On a back surface of the light guide plate are formed mirror-polished prism structures extending parallel with the light incident surface. A downward-pointing prism sheet with a given prism apex angle is placed on the light exit surface of the light guide plate. The use of the downward-pointing prism sheet together with the light guide plate having the anisotropic diffusion hologram pattern integrally formed thereon produces a liquid crystal display device with enhanced luminance properties.
