Abstract:
An interpolymer composition comprising monomer-derived units of (i) at least one of an aliphatic olefin containing from 2 to 30 carbon atoms and a vinyl aromatic monomer, and (ii) at least one alpha, beta-unsaturated acylating agent; wherein a portion of said acylating agent monomers is esterified and wherein a portion of said acylating agent monomers is condensed with at least one aromatic amine, provides good viscosity modification and dispersancy performance.
Abstract:
Reaction of a carboxylic acid-containing polymer with certain aromatic amines results in dispersant viscosity modifiers with improved soot handling performance in heavy-duty diesel engines, compared with reaction with non-aromatic amines.
Abstract:
A composition of the reaction product of (a) an isobutylene-diene copolymer having thereon groups containing carboxylic acid functionality or reactive equivalent thereof, derived from an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic compound; and (b) an amine component comprising at least one aromatic amine containing at least one N—H group capable of condensing with said carboxylic acid functionality, is a useful dispersant viscosity modifier.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a composition comprising: (a) a hydrocarbon fluid; and (b) a dispersant/detergent comprising the structure of Formula (1): (E)p−Z Formula (1), wherein Z is a residue of a polyamine or polyimine; E is (i) a residue of a polyester having a free carboxylic acid group, or (ii) a residue of a hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent, with the proviso that if E is the hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent, Z is a polyimine, and wherein when E is the hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent, the composition has a phosphorus content of 0 ppm to 650 ppm. The invention further provides a use for the composition.
Abstract:
A composition comprises a sulphur free reaction product of: (a)(i) a hydrocarbyl substituted aromatic compound containing an acidic group selected from the group consisting of a carboxylic group, a hydroxyl group and mixtures thereof and (a)(ii) an organic nitrogen-containing base reacted with acidic group. The composition is obtained by a preparatory process and is useful in a method for lubricating an internal combustion engine to include where the lubricant has reduced levels of sulphur, phosphorus and sulphated ash.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a composition comprising: (a) a metal salixarate; (b) at least one additive selected from the group consisting of (1) an antioxidant; (2) a friction modifier; (3) a dispersant; (4) a viscosity modifier; (5) a dispersant viscosity modifier; and (6) an antiwear agent other than a metal hydrocarbyl dithiophosphate; and (c) an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the composition contains 400 ppm or less of phosphorus derived from a metal hydrocarbyl dithiophosphate. The invention further provides a process for preparing the composition and its use.
