Abstract:
A method for balancing the allocation of available display slots on a Web page among a plurality of different sources of display items comprises (a) defining for each source a set of candidate items to be displayed, (b) selecting items from a pool of all candidate sets, in a manner that normalizes the probability that the items of any one candidate set will be selected in relation to the items of the other candidate sets, and (c) inserting the selected items into the available display slots of the Web page.
Abstract:
A method for assessing a condition of an organism having body waves corresponding to states of the organism. The method may include the step of recording signals corresponding to a body wave, output by a portion of the organism in a first state, to provide a first record. In a similar manner, signals may be recorded during a time period in which the organism is in a second state, to provide a second record. The first and second records, may be processed by applying feature expansion procedures thereto. The results of the feature expansion procedures may be evaluated to identify first selected feature expansion procedures effective to distinguish values of the first signals corresponding to the first state from values of the first signals corresponding to the second state.
Abstract:
AN APPARATUS IS PROVIDED FOR REDUCING FUEL AND LUBRICATING OIL CONSUMPTION AND INCREASING POWER IN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES WHICH INCLUDES AN IMPROVED MOISTURIZING UNIT FOR ADDITION OF MOISTURE TO GASES BEING FED TO THE AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE APPARATUS OPERATES AT PEAK EFFICIENCY AT LOW OR HIGH SPEEDS, AND IT MAY BE USED IN WARM OR COLD CLIMATES. THE MOISTURIZING UNIT INCLUDES FIRST AND SECOND VESSELS AND CONDUITS INTRODUCING GASES AND WATER INTO THE VESSELS. AN ATOMIZER IS MOUNTED IN THE FIRST VESSEL. A CONDUIT INCLUDING AN ASPIRATOR IS CONNECTED TO THE SECOND VESSEL FOR WITHDRAWING WATER BY ASPIRATION AND INTRODUCING THE WATER INTO THE FIRST VESSEL. A CONDIUT FOR EQUALIZING PRESSURES IN THE VESSELS IS PROVIDED. AN IMPROVED VARIABLE VALVE IS ALSO PROVIDED.
Abstract:
A wet flue gas desulfurization process uses byproduct polyester streams such as those from the production of PLA and/or PGA consisting of hydroxy acids and other organic acids to catalyse the solubilization of calcium from limestone and to further catalyse the reaction of calcium with SO2 for desulfurization and thereby provide significant improvement in process efficiency.
Abstract:
Image editing tools are commonly used to assist with manipulating and saving visual compositions. Many image editing tools provide slicing functionality to create images slices (sub-images) of the visual composition. As provided herein, a slice representation of a visual composition is defined by an arbitrarily chosen set of coordinates within the visual composition. This slice region may be defined independent of other slice regions (e.g. the slice region may or may not overlap, abut, etc. other slice regions). The slice representation comprises the slice region and one or more objects or portions thereof within the slice region. Slice representations may also comprise overlapping objects and/or slice region coordinates. Objects may be manipulated within a slice representation without affecting that object within other slice representations.
Abstract:
An artificial inflatable airway device is described that includes at least one inflatable sealing portion and a pressure monitoring means, the sealing portion and the pressuring monitoring means being integrally and operably attached, adapted to measure at least one pressure within the sealing portion of the inflatable airway.
Abstract:
A method of making a laryngeal airway of the type that includes a respiratory tube and an inflatable positioning shield having a base and an inflatable, hollow peripheral portion is described herein. The method includes introducing at least one molding material onto internal walls of a mold, wherein the mold has a cavity defined by internal walls that conform to the external wall of the laryngeal airway, and wherein only a sufficient amount of the molding material is introduced onto the internal walls of the mold that is necessary to create external walls of the laryngeal airway having a desired thickness and allowing the molding material to cure about the internal walls, thereby forming laryngeal mask.
Abstract:
Polymeric reagents comprising a polymer attached, either directly or through one or more atoms to a ketone or a related functional group such as ketone hydrate, thione, monothiohydrate, dithiohydrate, hemiketal, monothiohemiketal, dithiohemiketal, ketal, or dithioketal are provided. The polymeric reagents are useful for, among other things, forming polymer-active agent conjugates. Related methods, compositions, preparations, and so forth are also provided.

The method includes introducing at least one molding material into a mold, wherein the mold has a cavity defined by internal walls, wherein the internal walls conform to external walls of the laryngeal mask, and wherein the mold has a core within its cavity that is adapted to form the hollow portions of the laryngeal airway.
