Abstract:
Plants, seeds and oils having a total long chain monounsaturated content of at least about 82% and an erucic acid content of at least about 15% are described. Methods for producing plants having the profiled fatty acid content are also described.
Abstract:
A triacylglycerol containing oil having a 1,3-dierucoyl 2-oleoyl glycerol (EOE) content of at least 50% is described. Plants for producing an oil having a high EOE content are also described.
Abstract:
Candle compositions are disclosed which include a high concentration of liquid oils, yet are solid due the incorporation of wax-monoesters; thereby enhancing the scope, quality and functionality of candles. The wax-monoesters may be obtained from natural plant based waxes, including rice bran wax. Candles based on the candle compositions and methods of making the compositions are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Symmetrical polyols, polyol esters, polyesters, polyurethanes, triazoles, and polyvinylethers derived from glycerol and methods of making the symmetrical polyols, polyesters, polyurethanes, polyhydroxyvinylethers and triazoles are discussed. Also provided is a method of making serinol.
Abstract:
A release agent composition which is particularly suited for industrial applications such as preventing the adhesion of asphalt or concrete materials to surfaces such as truck beds, other containers, or equipment used in handling these compounds. The release agent composition includes lecithin in combination with a dispersing agent, particularly a propylene based glycol ether, a propylene based glycol ether acetate, an ethylene based glycol ether, or an ethylene based glycol ether acetate and mixtures thereof. The lecithin and dispersing agent are mixed with water to form an aqueous dispersion for application to surfaces.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for reducing the sterol, for example cholesterol, content of sterol-containing substances such as fats and oils. The method provides an efficient and cost effective process based on the affinity of cholesterol and other sterols for phospholipid bilayers. Phospholipid aggregates are contacted with, for example, a sterol-containing fat or oil in an aqueous environment and then mixed. Following adequate mixing, the sterol-reduced fat or oil is separated from the aqueous separation mixture. Alternatively, the correspondingly sterol-enriched phospholipid also may be isolated from the aqueous separation mixture.
Abstract:
A copolymer of linseed oil and dicyclopentadiene provides a new polymeric vehicle and formulated coating composition which are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), yet provide low viscosities which facilitate application to a substrate with existing equipment.
Abstract:
Compositions that include an oxidizable fatty acid-containing oil and wax capable of limiting oxidation of the oil are disclosed. Also disclosed are compositions that include an ingestible fatty acid-containing oil and an ingestible wax. Polyunsaturated fatty acid-containing oils may be stabilized by mixing the oil with a melted wax capable of limiting oxidation of the oil, and allowing the mixture to cool.
Abstract:
Oils containing a triacylglycerol polyol ester and a non-glycerol polyol ester are described, as well as methods of making such oils. Methods for improving lubrication properties of a vegetable oil also are described.
